Belted Kingfisherby Links 2 3 4Comment: Great result Russell. Well done.
Can't argue with that lens either...in my dreams. Here's our King (Southern Africa) taken with a 500mm f/6.3 in the wild :)

Male Ruby-Throated Hummingbirdby karenkComment: Originally posted by LydiaToo: I hereby challenge Harvey to get a shot like this... with or without a feeder... as long as the feeder is not in the shot. |
It is a great shot, with good technical ability yet without the banding I'd have given it +1 more at 8.
I have BiF images but they are from much more erratic flight paths than known flight paths. Challenge accepted, but it will take some time before I can get out to a place where our Southern African hummers are to be found, and that's a rather far and expensive trip for me so may take a while to plan and get there :) |

Eclipticby riotComment: "A wildlife shot with artificial light."
Fabulous work and spot-light as mentioned in my original comment. I voted an 8.
However I contest this is not a wildlife shot. It is a nature image shot under controlled in captivity conditions and I feel very strongly about the distinct difference between the two. I have no problem with zoo or sanctuary images and encourage my photo students to visit them, support them, and practice technique there for the day that that elusive subject appears before them in the real wild. I just make sure they make that distinction if they publish their captivity photos.
Again, a marvellous image and congrats on your HM! |

Pelicanby GeneralEComment: Yes well technically you can submit this. The rules do not say live bird or feathered variety only. It was implied. I only wished that you would have shot it in a manner that screamed quality, composition, dof, lighting and effort. |
