That's OK. I knew at the outset that this more abstract image would not appeal to some people. I was delighted that it did as so well despite this, and the many positive comments I've received indicate that it struck a chord with several people. The images of mine that I enjoy the most include several more abstract ones and I made a decision recently to pursue that style more deliberately, at least for a while. It would be a sad day indeed if we ended up with DPC comprised of members all of whom had the same tastes. Thanks for the comments.

ETA, It's perhaps not so much the image's abstract quality as its simplicity, and the serenity that it conveys, which several of you have pointed out :-). In general I think sunsets are often better enjoyed than photographed, but there seemed to be a special quality in the light that night, and I had a hard time tearing myself away from the beach that evening which is how I came to get this capture.

A side note: It's at times like that evening that I really regret that Robert (Bear_music) cannot use the phone. I wasn't so far away, but too far to go and get him down to the beach in time to enjoy/photograph this too. :-(

Wendy, I thought I had commented on this during the voting but see that I did not. Gave it a 9 which is really high for me. I love the textures in the foreground. Glad to see it made the top five, despite your earlier prognosis that a 6.6 would not make it in the top 10!! Congratulations.

I see your Scottish ancestors' influence here... with tartan, and then thistle, and finally the sporran. Lovely F&B!

Reminds me of the foothill mountains between Calgary and Banff. Lovely light.

I like this. It's an interesting creation, or so I'm guessing based on the textures in the upper left corner, which look like fabric, or perhaps a painted surface, but perhaps I'm wrong. The title makes me ponder... you can get "white out" conditions in snow, is there a name for the same phenomenon in a rain storm?

Despite the adverse conditions suggested by the title I find this very tranquil and restful to look at.

It can be so entertaining watching the activity of these little fellows as they follow the water line when the waves come in then retreat, and they seem to do it over and over! IMO this suffers a bit from the horizon not being a stronger element, but I enjoyed the image overall. A composition of textures.

I enjoyed this. I love the series of quite different bands with their different textures etc. and the change in the light. What I also enjoyed was that my eye at first wanted to interpret the line behind the trees as the horizon. Sorting out that why that was happening caused me to linger and enjoy the image a little longer. Thanks.

Lovely image. Lots to enjoy and explore. The branch and the series of islands are both very effective at leading one's eye to the horizon. At first glance I thought it was a negative, or an infra red, but I guess it's just the onset of winter! One of my highest scores. Good luck.!
