Wow! This has me wondering if this is a gradual process where the ice builds up over time, and each successive wave adds another layer until it is like this, or perhaps I am misunderstanding how much of this wave is actually "frozen" into the shape we see here. Regardless, this is fascinating.

... and what are the shadowy "markings" in the sky at the top right, I can't figure that out?

At first glance they looked like a bunch of transparent buttons spread out, some even with threads still hanging from them... I think a tighter crop of just the upper right two thirds would have held my interest better, but that's just my opinion.
