This is a beautiful capture of the form and lovely color of this flower, but sadly IMO it ends up feeling very flat because there is just no variation in the light. This could really "pop" in the right sort of light. I'm writing this comment because the biggest improvement in my photography occurred when I went from mainly paying attention to the form/composition and began to start looking more at the effect of light on the objects and at how I was capturing that as well. It took someone pointing this out to me for me to start seeing what a difference it made. I wanted to pass that on.

The swollen veins, and this particular shade of green nicely speak to the changes that take place in trees at this time of year.

Congratulations on the well deserved blue ribbon. I'm just now looking through this challenge. I enjoyed this a lot. Until I read your description and looked at the title I thought this was shot looking up. There are very few clues about its scale.
