Christmas Smellsby BAMartinComment: i like the title, it gives me a very cozy feeling. what is it that i'm looking at? i'll be interested to find out on monday. challenge -- met technical -- i like the orange glow on the ... things ... not sure about the contrast in the shadows, what would it look like if there was just a bit more detail there? composition -- the 'other' rule of three ;) using three subjects always works well. -- gr8photos. |

Small and still beautifulby RichiComment: challenge -- met. the fingers add a nice sense of scale to the shot. that flower really is tiny! technical -- the focus seems to be on the fingers, rather than the flower. that's a hard one to get right in macro photography with the shallow DOF ... composition -- i'm slightly distracted by the thing to the right of the fingers. what is it? it doesn't look like it belongs in the shot. -- gr8photos. |

Prawnby ChuscaComment: challenge -- met technical -- nice colors, focus and sharpness composition -- i'm not sure about that one. probably difficult to arrange them in the pan (or are they already done?). i don't like that there are partial shrimp visible at the top, but not the bottom. makes the image feel just a little unbalanced to me. -- gr8photos. |

The Gecko Whispererby anzComment: challenge -- met ... wow, that's quite a small gecko. the hand gives a good feeling of size, well done. technical -- just a little more light on the gecko and maybe some reflection from the other side to even out the lighting and remove the shadow on the hand at the top would be better. your focus and detail in the photo is excellent though. composition -- two things that i would've considered doing differently (and you may very well have tried them and chosen not to do them, so ignore me if you have). i would've tried to include more hand so that you don't have that dark corner of additional background in the lower right. would it have been possible at all to photograph the gecko from its level rather than top down so that the viewer can connect with it more by seeing its face? or would that sense of scale have been missing? in any case, good photo. -- gr8photos |

Lady Lemonby LanSnakeComment: challenge -- met technical -- nice clarity on the bug. i peersonally don't like the pinkish background. that's because i have a thing for bright white ones, but also, because the color doesn't really complement anything in the shot. i just played around with your photo and upped the brightness and gamma, and the colors overall were much brighter. i think i like that better. email me if you want me to send you a copy. composition -- i would have preferred the whole bug in the picture. don't get me wrong, this is not a bad photo. those things that i listed above are just the ones that would've had me go 'wow' more. -- gr8photos. |

The miniature forestby JannickComment: LOL ... good idea :) challenge -- met technical -- nice focus and clarity. the background is just right, not in focus, but not too blurry to recognize. just a little bit too bright for my personal taste. composition -- also nice. -- gr8photos. |

PALATABLE COLOURSby PtmanComment: nice title challenge -- met technical -- i would like to see the lower brush in focus also. you have sufficient DOF to do this if you made sure the plane of the picture is parallel to your camera. i like the colors in this shot a lot. composition -- did you try just one brush? and maybe place it inbetween of the two current ones? i would also add paint to the bristles. i know that would make it a different photo, but it would look more realistic to me. i don't usually paint with two brushes like that and w/out paint on the brush. but then, i don't paint often. -- gr8photos. |

Green Flyby cyproComment: isn't the macro world great? i love those huge eyes on flies and their shimmering bodies :) challenge -- met technical -- pretty good. did you use the greatest DOF that your camera allows? if not, it would be nice to increase it to get the whole flower in focus, too. but i know that digital cameras have a very shallow DOF in macro mode ... composition -- did you consider rotating 90CCW? while your background is blurred nicely, it works even better w/out strong color changes. just moving around a little sometimes gives a better view. -- gr8photos |

Beautiful Poison (mercury)by mrsingh816Comment: ugh, i hope you cleaned that up carefully after the photo. i was just listening to a report about mercury on the radio this morning ... challenge -- met. creative idea. technical -- very nice focus and reflection. composition -- love the wood texture. i think i would've tried cropping this a little tighter, taking some off the top and the right side. -- gr8photos. |

A Mallard Was Hereby camelotnorthComment: hehehe ... check out my out-takes ... i almost submitted a duck feather with a water drop :) challenge -- met technical -- good lighting, clarity, focus. compostition -- i like that you used the piece of wood as a background, it makes the feather fit in well. not sure about the blue in the background, but that's just me. -- gr8photos |
