| 12/01/2002 12:59:27 PM | Blue at F32by scab-labComment: challenge -- met technical -- i very much like the colors, and the little reflections on the drops add to the pic. composition -- i like that you used the 'other' rule of three, to use three objects. it works well, and the pepsi label adds both that necessary touch of color, as well as an indication of the object. very nicely done. -- gr8photos | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/03/2002 12:03:00 PM | Live Proudby memoComment: challenge -- met techincal -- i'm assuming that you overexposed this one on purpose. personally, i'm not so fond of it, because of the 'smudges' left in the stars and the white and red stripes. composition -- i would have included a tad more stars and less stripes (closer to rule of thirds), but, again, that's just my personal opinion. nothing wrong with the way you've done it, either. -- gr8photos |
| 12/02/2002 12:43:00 PM | Flat tire blues.by catpixelComment: challenge met -- yes, even twice :) technical -- this image looks a little too flat, i wish the colors would pop a little more. increasing contrast would do that for you. i've got an example if you are interested ... email me. focus and lighting good. composition -- ok. -- gr8photos. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 12/03/2002 01:28:00 PM | The Secret Gardenby andrewmComment: challenge ~ met composition (content) ~ nice framing by the growth over the wall at the top, and good placement of door to the side. colors are a little more muted than i personally prefer. good detail throughout though. i would've cropped the bottom just a little more, maybe just to the bottom of the blue panels, so that the sidewalk is not visible. background ~ nice and simple, complements w/out distracting. camera work (technical) ~ ok digital processing (technical) ~ photo could be a little sharper through use of unsharpen mask. other than that, the photo is fine, no visible pixelation or anything like that. my opinion ~ i have a thing for open doors, they suggest mystery and make you wonder what's behind. you enhanced this further by making just a little bit of what's behind the door visible. i don't care much for the signs on the door or the doorbell on the right, they take away a little from the oldfashioned kind of feel of the shot, but i understand you didn't have control over those and couldn't very well remove them ;) ~~ gr8photos |
| 12/03/2002 04:24:00 PM | Caught In A Whirlpoolby jimmspComment: challenge ~ met composition (content) ~ interesting swirls ... is it water with foodcoloring or something? i would have placed the swirl exactly in the center, or used the rule of thirds ... you are somewhere in between. background ~ background and subject are kind of the same, so it's hard to say. a slightly tighter crop could've gotten rid of the bottom left corner which doesn't fit in with the rest of the shot. camera work (technical) ~ fine. digital processing (technical) ~ good. my opinion ~ it's abstract, but not so abstract that i can't even guess at what it may be (although my guess may be wrong, at least i can visualize something out of the photo). i would've liked a little less white, and maybe some more sharp lines, but that may not have been possible, and that's also just personal taste, especially for an abstract photo. overall good shot. ~~ gr8photos | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/02/2002 03:18:00 PM | Right from the Sourceby MaytagmanComment: challenge -- met technical -- i like the light reflecting from the crystal, but it is a little too blown out on the crystal itself. don't think you can have one without the other unfortunately. also pretty cool that the mesh in the background can be seen through the bottom of the crystal. composition -- the black corner on top is distracting, a closer crop would've removed that. would it have been able to photograph this head on so that the mesh lines were straight? it may not have worked with the reflection, but if it had, i personally would've preferred that. -- gr8photos |
| 12/02/2002 12:41:00 PM | Blue and Whiteby jbolingComment: challenge -- met technical -- some pixelation in the sky, and around the tree. oversharpened or low end camera? composition -- to be honest, not very exciting. there's not enough going on in the picture for me to want to spend much time studying it. i do love the colors though (good thing i like blue, otherwise this challenge would be tough to judge ;) -- gr8photos |
| 12/03/2002 12:01:00 PM | Blue Ladyby JEMComment: challenge -- met. and the photo tells a story, which is always an added bonus. technical -- good catch of her mostly in the shade ... it looks like the light was pretty harsh out there. nice focus and clarity. composition -- also nice. i wish she was looking more into the camera but that was probably out of your control. what's that in the upper left corner? cropping that out (640x427 format) would maybe have helped. -- gr8photos | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/03/2002 12:28:00 PM | feeling blueby KAOSComment: challenge -- met composition (content) -- the landscape format works well here with the tilted head. the colors on the head are nice, the glasses are a great additional touch. background -- i'm not too thrilled about the background, mainly because the thingybobs (that's the technical term ;) that keep the umbrella open are too close the the head. maybe if you'd taken that photo from a little further to the left (assuming other extraneous stuff in the background allowed that) would have separated the two better). camera work (technical) -- nice colors, good job avoiding reflections on the glasses. digital processing (technical) -- looks fine to me. my opinion -- a nice shot, just a tad too busy overall for my personal liking. -- gr8photos. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
