Seeking Forgiveness by dsidwellComment: A nearly centered horizon tends to split an image in half, and this is no exception. But it works here because the split emphasizes the difference between God and man. Similarly, centering the subject doesn't give it as much attention as following the rule of thirds would. But that works here too because you want the center of attention to be God, which you can't depict directly. But the model's raised arms direct the viewer's attention that way. So I think the composition is very effective even though you broke two "rules". |

Once Bitten...by MWittComment: Very unique use of shadow. Very effective. I can't say I like it, but I can certainly appreciate it. |

Pear and shadowby alexbolComment: A simple composition, but difficult to execute. You've balanced the fill lighting just right to illuminate the pear evenly without excessively diluting the nice sharp shadow from the key light. It would have been nice if the secondary shadow of the stem was hidden. |

without a brushby timmiComment: You've done a great job of making the light and shadow look like the work of a talented artist. Perfect title. |

Shadows So Softby pcodyComment: The shadows are soft, yet so well defined that at first glance they look like part of the objects instead of shadows. Very subtle. I find the frame distracting. |

light and darkby trainComment: The shadow is interesting, sharp, and the stark contrast with the white background makes it grab the viewer's eye first. The flower is more subtle and doesn't stand out as much from its dark background so doesn't call immediate attention to itself, but is there to give an answer to the viewer's inevitable question of what the shadow is from, and is interesting in its own right as well as adding a splash of needed color. This image works very well for me. |
