Golden Lightby dinnComment: Here's the critique you requested, from the Critique Club.
The first thing I notice when looking at this picture is the beautiful warm color. It is very inviting and works with the spaciousness, soft focus, and the obvious fact that the photo is of the inside of a church to express sacredness quite well.
The viewpoint is very good. There are plenty of perspective clues to convey both the width and depth of the church very well. The exposure is perfect; the bright parts are burned out, but the tonal range inside the church is just right and there is plenty of detail in the shadows.
Great job on your first challenge entry. |

Uplifting!by trainComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
This image has a wonderful array of different textures, from the bright green leaves on the trees to the mottled shadows on the ground. The warm light in the midground is inviting, and a nice contrast with the shadowy foreground. The soft focus gives an impressionistic effect. I can see why you consider this park sacred.
The interested viewer has much to explore in this image. But there is little to invite an indifferent viewer to become interested. Especially when said viewer has a hundred other photos to vote on. I think this explains at least part of the so-so final score. I personally like it very much, especially after having taken the time to become acquainted with it. |

Shadows in Heavenby KonadorComment: Greetings from the Critique Club.
This scene had too much tonal range to be captured in its entirety by a camera, and I agree capturing the shadow was the right choice. The upward camera angle emphasizes that the shadow is in the sky as well as providing a dramatic view of the church tower. The part of the church in the foreground helps balance the composition, but the cross on top of it competes for the center of interest being in the foreground with strong diagonal lines leading to it. While this is normally to be avoided, I think it works here since it brings the viewer's gaze closer to the shadow, which is the major feature of this image but not so exciting in and of itself.
Overall I like this image. The church, with its varied textures, is interesting itself and the shadow adds both symbolic and visual interest. |

Resistance is Futileby vonautschComment: This image really grabs your attention. Great composition. A bit bright overall. I can see several messages this image could convey; this is a plus for most photos, but a weak point for propaganda. |

Smoking is Dead Sexy by TechnoShroomComment: Conveys the message clearly with a high impact. That's what propaganda is all about! Great lighting and technically perfect. |

Religious Propagandaby melongrindComment: Including the man but leaving off his head makes the image document his propaganda but subtly reject it. A stroke of genius! |
