Just a stove

Greetings from the Critique Club!

The message
The title says it all. It is certainly possible to make interesting photos from mundane objects, and there are many ways to add meaning to a picture. But this photo doesn't say anything to me; it is just a stove.

Creative choices
Lighting is a very important factor in photography, and the lighting here is unflattering. The knobs (which are the center of focus here) are lit only indirectly, except for some glare on the top. The narrow DOF does add some interest here, although as other have pointed out, weakens its connection to the challenge.

Technical aspects
Focus and sharpness are great. Exposure is fine too; shadow detail is lost, but I attribute that to lighting. So I don't see any technical problems with this photo.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

The message
This is a creative idea, well expressed by the photo. The flare is well placed and is even shaped similar to a football. But once the novelty wears off, there isn't a lot to hold one's interest.

Creative choices
The point of view and position of the sun in relation to the goalpost are great. Exposing to make everything a silhouette was an obvious choice, but a good one. The elements are easily recognized and work well together. The vertical format and dimensions of the picture seem just right. Capturing the sun's rays adds a nice touch.

Technical aspects
Focus and color rendition are perfect. The exposure is great for the silhouette treatment. Technically very well done.

Interesting subjects with good composition and lighting. But the back subjects are not in focus and that is distracting. This would be a great photo if it had deep DOF.

Nice pastoral scene with great DOF. Could benefit from some postprocessing to tweak the contrast and remove the color cast.

Morning light is usually magical and works here very well. Great composition.

Needs a bit more contrast and a lot less clutter.

This would be a great photo if the inside of the tower was in focus and the sky was a bit more interesting.

Nice juxtaposition of the natural and artificial, although I can't help wondering how it would be in a landscape format.

The coil of wire completes the story, but is unobtrusively placed so it doesn't detract from the beauty of the scene. Nicely done.
