I don't usually give bluebirds to top shots, but this one is so incredible!

I'm a little slow on these awards, but...
You've been awarded the bluebird award!

Bokeh (mild), Rule of Thirds, Stop Action
by jimsapp

Comment:
There's a couple of things that don't work quite right in this photo. This really is almost exactly between rule of thirds and centered. If you would have cropped from the right a little, it would have worked for centered, if you would have cropped in from the left, it would have worked better for rule of thirds.

This is a wonderful photo--I like the weeds in the front and the shallow depth of field. But the pine tree is very distracting and it seems a tad dark. I hope you don't mind, but I liked the photo so much, I brought it into photoshop so I could suggest a crop and lighten it a tad. This is what I would suggest: . I just cropped it and adjusted slide in levels. (I actually would have the bird more off center, but with cropping out the tree, you can't really get the rule of thirds).

Feel free to completely ignore this if you disagree. It was just a suggestion because the shot really called to me. Good luck with the challenge! :D

I think it's interesting the people who are doing deep dof and blur. The only way I can tell is if the blur is the same from front to back. It looks that way, so I'll believe it! Nice colors. Fun choice.

This really doesn't look like shallow depth of field. My eyes are lousy, but looks pretty deep to me. (but then again, I don't focus well on small things.)

The lighting seems more up and to the right than backlit, but I'll believe it for voting purposes :D This is lovely and nicely done. -7-

seems a tad over-sharpened. wonderful catch, however! I'm not sure I agree on portrait for a bird, but I can be open-minded and won't change the vote. However, it is a bit noisy. If you try de-noising it, it might take down the sharpening a tad and be more pleasing aesthetically. -7-

centered and rule of thirds... I think that's a stretch.

Comment:
I really don't think that blur fits this. Soft focus definitely, but not blur. However, I think these techniques are definitely open to interpretation, so it's not getting in my way. -8- (but I thought you should know in case you are getting any low votes. beautifully done, btw)
