Awesome!!! Huge congrats on the blue and the PB! It was an 8 from me. :)

About the blue spark -- I'm assuming that you don't have the blue because it's blown. Two things you can try:

1. Do you shoot RAW? This gives you more control over the exposure during post processing. You can open the file and adjust it the way you want it to appear for the mechanism itself, then open another copy of the same file, this time bringing down the exposure until you get the blue, and then merge the two images, masking out the appropriate areas.

2. If the RAW file still doesn't give you enough information, since it was advanced editing, you can take two pictures -- one exposure adjusted for the machine then one exposure adjusted to the blue spark. Then bring the images together masking out the appropriate parts.

That's what I would do -- there's probably other ways of doing it. :)

I like the idea and set up of the shot, but the lighting seems quite flat. I think more contrast could have helped. :)

I love the idea of the shot and the angle, but it's still so dark. I'd be curious what it would look like with the interior of the facility brighter. It's possible that you're getting hurt quite a bit by the 800 pixel limit. Maybe it would be better if we could see it at 1600, and the darkness wouldn't affect it so much. 5 as is, but probably could have been a 7 shot.

I like this one a lot. I kind of wish that the cupcakes behind were going off more at an angle instead of straight behind. I would be curious if it would have improved it, or just been different. I like what the dof does to the colors of the back cupcakes. The only nitpick is the area between the front two cupcakes -- I'd be curious what that would look like lighter. The shadow seems to be out of keeping with the bright, cheerful shot. All nitpicks, though. 7 for the photograph. +1 because what you did with the photograph really made me want the cupcake. There may be prettier desserts on here, but this one made my mouth water. -8-

I think this is one of those shots that need to grow on you. I like the processing. But the composition is bothersome in the beginning. My eye was split between the lamp and the kid, and neither really held it.

It gets better the more you go back to it. The lamp is really quite nice, but I want it to play more of a part in the story. Since it's in the upper right corner, I'd love him to be in the lower left corner, turned a bit more. I want the light to be casting a warm circle glow on the scene below and have it's light play more of a part. Right now they're just too disconnected. I'd even think of having the screen on on the laptop, like you caught the moment when he just fell asleep. The screen wouldn't show anything, but the lighting might be interesting to bring the eye more over the the kid.

I'm also wondering whether it would be better flipped. Since people read left to right, sometimes, when you an image that splits your eye, it's more effective leaving the last look at the main subject. (a lot of images don't work flipped -- but it's a though.)

ooh -- yup -- flipping it made it much more about the kid and the technology (I had to go try it :)

Love the idea on this one. Love the shot on the right and in the center. Wish there was just a little more on the shot on the left. (backlit for a outline, or just a hint more of the face -- not much at all, just a tad more...)

I'm struggling on this one. The title has me thinking door, frame, things holding things up, but the upper left doesn't lend itself to those. So I'm stumped. The shot in the upper left is my fav. I like the lines quite a bit. I also like the idea of the different tones, but they don't quite work for me here. I like how the shot on the right makes it look like the side view of the two shots on the left.
