Nice find -- an example of the constant conflict between order and disorder which pervades society and wastes so much of our energy. Can't see anything I'd do differently. :-)

My first impression was that this was from a Disney film (e.g. Fantasia) or a fairy-tale book ... very "moody" image.

I'm a fan of square crops, and I think it works fine here. I like the contrast between the chilly foreground elements and the warm glow on the horizon.

Interestingly, from this perspective, the fence rails follow the same lines as a freeway ramp or aquaduct -- more noticible in the thumbnail view. Squint your eyes (to defocus) and imagine a bridge over still waters ... I wonder what a healthy dose of Gaussian Blur would do ... :-)

" I wanted to make it look more like an architectural drawing than photograph."

You might go even further,, connverting to grayscale and compressing the tone range with Curves or Levels to find just the outlines of the structures.

FWIW, I got the juxtaposition of the lines of the buildings and the reedy plants before I read your comments. :-)

The "reverse silhouette" effect you've given the birds -- especially the bottom left -- remind me of Chinese/Japanese watercolor prints.

A brilliantly-executed "natural composite" image -- you'd have to work really hard to assemble something like this in Photoshop. :-)

The blending of interior and exterior elements is perfect, and it has just the right feeling of fantasy to match the subject matter.

Too bad about the tree ... the muted tones give it an appropriately funereal atmostphere.

Good choice to go to vertical crop. The processing makes it look cold (that's a good thing).

Noise is not a problem for me here. Nice tone adjustment to create a nice halo or aura effect, without losing detail in the shadows; you have highlights in the important places: eyes, tip of the nose, claws. I think you could reduce this to four or five tones (posterize) and still retain the essence of the subject.

Changing to grayscale puts the emphasis on the sandy path, rather than the big bush in front; excellent choice. Nice use of wide-angle without getting that distorted look -- it "fits" the landscape elements well.
