The previous comments were all copied from the anonymous image posted for voting. Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment -- I can't really disagree with any of them :-) -- and thanks to Don and Joe for running this.

As I said, I'm not entirely sure why I picked this subject, though part of it was using what I thought might be an unusual subject, partly I was pretty pleased with the "technicals" (not my usual strong suit), and a lot of it was being against the time deadline and not having many other "good" shots which hadn't already been posted here.

I've never really looked at one of these before (not being a plant guy). So I guess that if you showed me something I hadn't noticed before (and you did), it must be pretty good. Don't do any more for me though ... I really don't want to start liking flower & plant shots. It's such a small step to insects and splashes from there.

P.S. This is really a quite beautiful thing, isn't it? It started me thinking about Keats's Ode on a Grecian Urn.

Lovely photograph, well done technically and love the textures and details that show in this shot. It just doesn't say anything to me. I'm asking myself WHY I would want to see a photo of this? Not to be unkind but, I really can't see a "reason" behind it, other than nice photographic skills in taking a shot???

technically very well done (might need to clone that hot-pixel, if that's what it is). Nothing to complain about in this image, but nothing that engages me either. But your skill is evident here, and it seems like you might be a fan of Mappelthorpe's (sp?) flowers :-)

Beautiful detail and color in this exceptional floral. I Like the way you captured the subtle light reflections. The black background suits it perfectly.

Love these carnivorous plants! I am not so sure the side view like this does it justice though. I think a partly top down view to show the insides where the insect gets trapped would add more drama. Great colour, it pops nicely.

The textures here are very nice and the coloring is just subtle enough to become a presence in its own right.

Elegant, nice to look at. It doesn't hold my attention for long, though. I have to say, though, that this is a very good example of this kind of picture.
