17 years oldby marboComment: Unusual unevenness in the rings -- I wonder if this was growing on a slope. |

Frost and Floraby KazComment: I think I'd have put the flower all the way in the upper-right corner, bleeding off the edge, and maybe none of the stem. I think the contrast of the sharp crystal and the soft petals needs no distraction from the greenery. I like everything else; exposure, detail, etc. |

World of Wireby GeneralEComment: This was a tricky challenge for me because so much of my thoughts about images lean towards their use in a graphic context, as most stock photos are used. I've posted the original image (cropped but before the color manipulation and a cover mock-up for a fictional trade magazine (frequent users of stock photos) as my image might have been used.
BTW: the basic premise of the story is true (from a radio news report), but all of the details are made up.

Gull-ableby GeneralEComment: Thanks for your comments all. I was actually on the opposite dock, so I don't have the excuse of the boat's motion -- I blurred it all by myself. I was on autofocus and I'm pretty sure it picked the far background instead of the birds.
Also I had to crop pretty tight, so I may have lost some resolution/clarity there. There were two more birds on the rail to the left, but they had turned a little, so I abandoned the horizontal framing, which would have been a stronger composition, in favor of the vertical with fewer (but better aligned) birds. I tried a little more sharpening but it resulted in an unacceptable amount of fringing. |
