Oooh, you should try harder to get the print the same colors as this one ... at least you were able to clean up the tiniest droplets! Great shot.

Although your beach looks cold, there's nothing emblematic of Winter about it (like snow, Christmas lights, etc.), and your title didn't lead voters by the hand -- I might have called it "Winter Seascape" or "Surf Sans Snow" or something cleverer if I could think of it.

It has a very painterly look to it -- you might try running the Canvas or a brushstroke filter on it and accentuate the effect.

Check the "remnant table" at the fabric or craft store. They will often have the last yard or two at around 1/2 price. Velvet can be pretty expensive sometimes.

That's exactly the way it looked to me -- excellently done.

My only tiny "complaint" is that the lightening shows up the creases in the background cloth. A piece of velvet (or maybe crushed velvet if you want more texture) would be expensive, but just maybe worth it if you wanted to re-create this shot for print.

Amazing what idiotic things people will do to get their picture taken or on TV.

Thanks for all the comments -- their consistency is quite gratifying.

I was riding in the back seat as we were driving at about a 45 degree angle towards the left. I took the shot out the front passenger-side window over my dad's shoulder. The motion blur combined with a bit of haze, road vibration, and the backlit conditions did in any chance for a sharp photo. But it was the "best" right-angle shot in terms of composition I had in the one day I had between returning from my trip and the entry deadline.
One of my outtakes is perhaps a better photo, but I think the "strength" comes from other elements than the right-angles.
