It's a shame it's cropped quite so tight on the left wing, otherwise the colours make a nice backdrop. Is that a dust spot or part of the clouds below the right wing?

I would tone down the saturation a touch for added reality. The photo speaks for itself and doesn't need it.

Thanks to everyone that commented, I was able to pick out some useful statements from all of them. The challenge was an experience, as it was the first time that I'd set out on a project. I've got into a habit lately of trying to get it right in camera, which has steered me away from cropping, plus I probably wasn't as familiar with what I was allowed to do as I could have been. Sharpening is also something I've tended to avoid, especially when I've pushed the contrast to the limit as I have here. It wouild have been nice to have teh odd cloud to play with, but the weather wasn't as accomodating as I'd have liked, but at least it wasn't solid, dull grey cloud like it had been an hour earlier.

Pushing the contrast has resulted in haloes around the cacti.

Added a point for the tonal range, but too much motion blur.

Good use of the shore as a leading line. Full tonal range.
