Probably not Ansel Adams first choice of subject matter, but I have tried to process it in his style. I deliberately waited until later in the morning for added contrast and clearer skies, then used a strong contrast curve in CS4, before converting to black and white, reducing the blue saturation and increasing the red and to a lesser extent, yellow. Finally, I did some minor dodging and burning, particularly around the tree highlights and the foreground shadows.

Thanks to everyone that commented, I was able to pick out some useful statements from all of them. The challenge was an experience, as it was the first time that I'd set out on a project. I've got into a habit lately of trying to get it right in camera, which has steered me away from cropping, plus I probably wasn't as familiar with what I was allowed to do as I could have been. Sharpening is also something I've tended to avoid, especially when I've pushed the contrast to the limit as I have here. It wouild have been nice to have teh odd cloud to play with, but the weather wasn't as accomodating as I'd have liked, but at least it wasn't solid, dull grey cloud like it had been an hour earlier.

More contrast and some more sharpening could give your image more pop.

Nice shot, think it would have helped if the main subject (the building) was a little more off centre. Also, you're not using the full available tonal range here, a curves / contrast adjustment could have helped liven this up a lot.

Nice composition and tones, but seems a little soft.

I like this, It might be better with a tighter crop on the bottom
