I like this picture a lot - I gave it a 9, but for me, the real special parts of the image are the top right and left corners. I think the surf boy and the surfer, or the collection of figures top right could be photos in their own right.

I love this image and I think there is no way it should be down in 56th place. As for the shadow versus silhouette comments, most of the lower half of the image is in shadow! Nowhere in the brief did it say take a photo of a shadow produced by an object which sits in the way of the light cast by a discrete source.
