Hosieryby lovethelightComment: You get the impression that every element in this shot has been subject to a choice as to whether it should be black, white, or a very particular shade of grey. I should add - I think this is a good thing! It makes the image feel crafted rather than simply shot. |

The Gatheringby Phantom01Comment: Really interesting image - this is technically very intriguing; leaves me wondering what lens? was it software corrected? HDR? How many exposures? Was there a shift in focus between them to get an extended DOF?
Or am I overcomplicating the shot - whatever, it's a great result. |

Subtle Sensual Seduction by Ann Marieby MPRPROComment: The point of focus is just in front of the model - it doesn't escape me that one way to remedy that would be for the viewer (camera) to move closer, thus reinforcing the meaning within the shot. Great work. |

Broken crown...by LutchenkoComment: Spectacular - just when I thought I couldn't be wow-ed with any more water drop shots - along comes this. All the more impressive because of our long exposure to such shots. |

Winter Timeby gsalComment: I LOVE this - composition, lighting, story, colour! I fear it won't score as well as I think it should. A 9 from me. |

a line of color in a grey cityby halopesComment: This is the first image that has really grabbed my attention - the use of the yellow and its high saturation really does draw attention to the grey elsewhere in the image. A 9 from me. |

Dead Wood & Waterby PaulComment: Kari Ann - many thanks for you critique here and you have picked up on the main thing that is lacking in this shot - the DOF in relation to the composition. I did do a slightly better version that at least was better composed for f/4:
But I had cloned out a power pylon and hadn't received the nod from SC before my submission deadline. I wouldv'e sought clarification before then but only became nervous because of a forum thread I had read - I should've stuck to my guns and stayed with my original.
However, the DOF problem remains in both versions. Getting access to this tree when it is wet is a bit of a challenge - both shots are done with me out of the sunroof of my 4X4 which is sat in a flooded area of the adjacent road; I'd have to trespass to get a better vantage point (the fence and adjacent farm building are out of shot). I wish it had been foggy AND wet on that day, I'd have then been sorted! - see one from a foggy day below:
Again, many thanks for your critique
Paul
