So good! I should've thought cutout; that's how good I think this is.

This works soooo well! A 10 from me (back to comment). The whole effect is one of us looking into another world; the wonderful colours mixed with the silhouette works wonderfully.

II'm giving a mediocre 5, so I'll let you know why. Although I like the pose and the intensity of the gaze, I'm not at all taken with the composition - perhaps I'm looking at this with an unsophisticated eye but the left eye (your/her left) holds the focus but the centred composition draws the eye away from here to the nose, which because of your depth of field is slightly out of focus. I think this would be a far more effective image if you had place the left eye dead centre.

Perhaps it was your intention to confound and provoke in this way, perhaps the title alludes to a deliberate unbalancing of the image - but in the final analysis, it isn't quite working for me.

Our Place By The Sea

Our Place By The Sea

Comment:
My word, I have to say I am a little taken aback by the hostility here - at least you were spared a ribbon, you'd have been crucified (photo opoportunity for 'religion'?). We all knew that there was potential for people to actually shoot wherever they wanted. There are a whole bunch of images that could've been taken anywhere; what mattered in this challenge was whether the photographer made an interesting image from what was in front of them - I think you did an OK job with a great scene, nothing amazing or unique but competent.

Come on people no one died and I read the notes as written with a clear and cheeky sense of humour, nothing malicious at all (can that be said for all of the comments?). You really think misjudging an audience and deploying a poorly received bit of jokery warrants this degree of abuse?

We see DNMC all of the time. Is this really so different?

For me, the most important thing is that we all had a legitimate opportunity to ask ourselves if Nuzzer made the most of this scene - did you take yours? Or were you seduced by the scenery?

If people continue to score on the quality of the eye candy rather than scoring photographic interpretation and vision, then this is an inevitable consequence... and perhaps even a useful reminder.

Just perfect!

I know you haven't published to 1x for a while but I think this recent street stuff you've been showing us is really fabulous! Might you consider publishing it there too!

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for my Mu (most underrated) award:

Positives: Pretty visionary - very painting like; I can't remember seeing an image like this on DPC before - I'm betting you'll have one of the highest comment counts of the challenge. The post processing is outstanding; just the right amount of everything - wonderful high key image.

Critical stuff: All my positive comments are based on the assumption that this is a real pig, on a novel set with great post-processing. The look you've given it may lead people to believe this is inauthentic - there is of course risk with the voters down that route.

Overall: The image is effective; I'll put doubts about authenticity aside and assume the best of you. I think this is great work.

Positives: I love how you've made this image seem so dreamy - I find with my work that foliage images can just look a bit messy but I have learnt a lot from look at this image. Colour handling is great as are the contrast characteristics.

Critical stuff: I do just wonder whether you might have got a slightly better sense of depth with a subtle vignette... just a thought.

Overall: Great looking image. Thanks for offering this up; I made need to revisit my 'foliage' challenge image now I've seen this!
