Traffic lightsby snafflesComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Another image which benefits from an interesting POV - it's amazing the interesting shapes we can find when we move our eyes in unusual directions. I like your composition here and how it points very directly into the corner of the frame. I like how we can see the texture on the metal too.
Critical stuff: I think there is a pretty finite amount of interest that can be gleaned from such a scene; I don't think you could have done much more with it but overall it will probably top out on interest pretty quickly for most viewers. I think the 'blown' yellow / orange detracts from the image a little as it dominates the frame.
Overall: A nicely made image of an everyday scene. |

Considering A Change?by Covert_OddityComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Wow, this is great work - the immense DOF has allowed you to capture these disparate but crucial elements with equal clarity. The guy sat down with the flowers in front and behind balances the image so well; the lighting throughout is fabulous - I know you didn't control the source but I wonder how much of your hand through exposure selection and post processing we are seeing here. It all hangs together very well.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: A great shot - well seen, superbly executed and loads of story too. |

Positives: I quite like model shots, I do a few myself and I particularly like slight odd, non-sterotypical ones (though I'm not sure I do enough of those). This one is odd AND bold - even better! I like how she is perched up there and her nakedness and ramshackle hair add to the sense that she is almost feral. This looks like the scene of a film I'd like to see - the lighting is cool too and adds much to the drama of the piece.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: It's probably getting hammered in the voting but I really, really like it. |

Positives: What an extraordinarily evocative image. The deep reds, the yellow of the flames - not enough to dispel a sense of coldness though. The figures, full of interest - I want to know what their stories are. Her hair blown across her face and the deep shadowing makes for a great deal of drama and the young fellow laughing in what seems like mockery to me. All very, very interesting.
Critical stuff: I think I'd have cropped a little off the left losing the red thing (chair?) - that would have allowed for a bigger canvas too.
Overall: Excellent and unusual - the best sort of image. |

Antartic Dreams 2by wildirisComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: What an interesting image! Not least because of the way in confounds our sense of scale - the bubbles suggest a macro but the rest of the scene communicates a larger scale. The colours are great, I particularly like the repeat of the horizon within the ice. Also - I think you have the overall luminosity level right too; it preserves the sense of perpetual evening.
Critical stuff: Nothing really.
Overall: Very well executed and presented image. |

The Landmark Centerby GatorguyComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: The lighting DOF / blurring make for a really interesting image - one that has a crafted feel as a consequence. The vibrant coloration contrasting with the slightly drab peripheral elements of the composition is highly effective.
Critical stuff: Not much, I suppose I wish it was a little more symmetrical but this is a minor issue.
Overall: Very effective. Nice work. |

Laying beneath the doorby DougTannerComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: What an unusual POV and one that has paid dividends, you communicate the sense of height very effectively as a consequence. I do like being able to see the textures to, though I think you may have paid a price for this (see below).
Critical stuff: Although the tones are such that we get to the texture in the shadows, this has led to an image which lacks a little drama.
Overall: I do like the image - it brings its own interest. |

Looking Outby SoulJanceComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: A very interesting image which gets better and better the longer you look at it - give it long enough and it becomes rather special indeed. The tones, textures, grain and focus are all deployed to perfection. This is photographic mastery.
Critical stuff: Nothing (of course)
Overall: Dying to know who shot this - utterly accomplished; it makes me feel a little embarrassed about my work which is pedestrian by comparison. |

Enlightenmentby keyzComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Bags of atmosphere in this shot - mainly due to the lighting and your edit to it. It makes me think of a giant corkscrew burrowing into the earth. I do like how the image is just lines and curves and black and white.
Critical stuff: The final sharpness just isn't there and I do think this hurts the image a little.
Overall: A great scene to present, I just wish it was technically perfect. |

Controlled Chaosby jegerComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: What an astonishing sight! Certainly not something you see every day - at least I don't! I like how there appears to be layer after layer of ducks and our proximity as suggested by the POV places us right amongst them. I'd really like to know where you were and with what lens when you shot this.
Critical stuff: Nothing really
Overall: Very effective image - you have created a sense of immersion in the scene for the viewer. |
