Sasaki IIIby zeuszenComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: I really like the ground glass look of this image; I really like the light too. It reminds me a little of some of AJHopp's work - so you must be hitting some of my buttons. I really like the angle of the edge of the surface with respect to the viewer.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: Very nice, well executed and very well balanced composition. |

The Ladder...by NikonJebComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: A nice grungy scene with interesting lighting that you have managed to capture very well.
Critical stuff: I think I would've tried to get the verticals as vertical as possible. The overall interest level in the scene is quite low and I'm not sure that even the perfect photograph of this scene would do very well.
Overall: Nice enough, but a bit limited in terms of interest level. |

Bridgeing the Gapby Keith_WComment: I know how hard it is to get such clarity with the DOFs associated with high macro. Very accomplished work. |

Positives: One of my favourites in the challenge - this is a wonderfully evocative image, full of story and beautifully executed - I particularly like the swaying / blown hair of the girl and her long shadow. The processing is bold too - the lateral highlights and the confidence you have in using the negative space at the bottom of the image is a great touch too.
Critical stuff: Nothing.
Overall: Great stuff. I wish the free studies were packed with interesting images like this. |

Cooperby Spork99Comment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: So well executed. The distorted bokeh from the lights sells the image to me. I think having the focus set upon the inside of the car is a great choice too.
Critical stuff: The blue car (Freelander??) behind detracts a little but there isn't much you could've done about that.
Overall: Nice, quirky image. I like it. |

Sail Awayby LonniComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: What a great stark image! One that confounds my sense of scale too - I'm not sure if this is architecture or a macro! The high contrast and sharpness and especially the black background conspire to give something that oozes clarity.
Nothing at all : Even the border has been well judged and matched to perfection.
Overall: A very accomplished image. |

A Poet's Handby photosensualisComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: This is a very effective nude image - highly sensual without being at all risque. For me it is as much about the interplay of shadow and light than it is about the subject. I also like how controlled the image is in terms of framing - it actually feels a little constrained. I like that, it adds to a feeling of closeness.
Critical stuff: Not much really.
Overall: A very effective image - humanity and photography in equal measure. |

Positives: A most unusual and interesting baby portrait. The deep shadows and colour temperate evoke a very warm cosseted feeling and the way the light (and your processing?) catches the fine body hair / down.
Critical stuff: I do think I'm a bit conventional here and feel that better focus on the face / eye would have improved the image (despite the overall soft feel).
Overall: Effective and unusual. |

Positives: Great effect - looks like an intricate mosaic. I really like how we can find sharpness and blur in this image and how those elements are intermixed across the whole frame. The trees themselves offer a great primer for the image - we see the trees but the way the branches act to fragment the image is very effective.
Critical stuff: The dark band at the top of the image - this area doesn't really add much and actually detracts a little from the effect you have created.
Overall: Very effective image. |
