Bereniceby rooumComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: I took quite a lot of time just looking at this one. Super-bold; I like that. I'm intrigued by the surface.... a reflection in metal? I see a silhouette but I don't know its relationship to.... well, to the world really. Where does the light come from? Is that hair? Is that an arm? What is the source of the coloration? Did you intend for the marks and scratches to create the shape of rudimentary features? Endless fascinations.
Critical stuff: Nothing.
Overall: In a DPC Free Study there are Apples and there are Pears, this is definitely a Pomegranate (and a Pointy one at that.) |

Positives: The combination of still elements and dynamic blurriness is fascinating; you've managed to communicate more of the scene as a result; we are transported here, not consigned to remain apart as mere viewer. The coloration is beautiful - the blue to transitions are quite lovely.
Critical stuff: I wonder about the foreground reddish brown tones - they perhaps are a little strong and draw the eye from the more comfortable areas of the image.
Overall: I agree... the stuff of dreams. |

Positives: I like this image a lot, I feel placed at the scene, part of it - and a little furtive as a result. The tones combined with the glowing highlights give it an otherworldly feel; rather reminiscent of a 'B' science fiction movie. I get the sense an alien body snatcher is about to walk into the scene at any moment! Movie feeling aside, the architecture is interesting - those distant windows hold the eye very well.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: Very nicely made indeed. |

Positives: You stopped and made me look, made me think with this one. As far as I can see this is all about the edit and what an interesting edit it is. Sharpness and blurdom all at once.
Critical stuff: i'm not too convinced by the underpinning image - without the interesting edit I'm not so sure there is too much here to look at.
Overall: although the edit has interest, I'm not sure the image matches it. |

Positives: How could I pass this one up?? Right up my street. I love the walking figure and e inherent interest in the tunnel but most of all I like the bold use of the negative space. Very uncompromising - there is a lesson there for me, I wouldn't have been so brave. I like the conversion too.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: Great shot, I'd hang it on my wall. |

Positives: This is a well taken image, great lighting on this semi-reflective surface. For me, the focus on the rail bar consigning the telephone to slight blurdom stops the eye from just settling on the phone. Instead, our eye is encouraged to wnder and so land upon the scratches and imperfections in the surface.
Critical stuff: One of those scenes that only has so much interest in it meaning that it tops out quite quickly.
Overall: I like it well enough but it's not one I'll find myself coming back just to look at. |

Colour Inside the Linesby hotpastaComment: This DQ is one that I've been caught out with before too. Once you get your head round it, it is perfectly fair. The new image area has been created between the selectively coloured areas in the area around the chalk. There is no 'natural' boundary to the area of coloration. If you had not strayed onto the petal nearest the chalk and had adjacent petals coloured differently rather than two colours on a single petal then this would have been OK because your differential coloration would have respected natural boundaries but because you created a new and arbitrary interface between the red and the white you have created a new image area.
