A lot of potential here but for me, the overdone eyes kills it.

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: I really like this - the colour palette stop me in my tracks - one of those picture that reminds us to lift our head and look around more often. The swathes of black negative space hurt the image not at all and serve to further emphasise the mood of the room.

Critical stuff: A scene like this only has a finite amount of interest in it and even when captured very nicely, the upper limit of interest is less than in images with a stronger story to tell.

Overall: I do like it. Nicely made.

Positives: A slightly bizarre image but an effective one. It very much has a crafted feel about it - it feels deliberate in a way that goes beyond 'staged' - as much of a planned moment as a planned photo. The composition is clinical in its precision and the capture has timing to match. The high contrast look suits the scene perfectly.

Critical stuff: I'm never a fan of crunchy foliage but I'm not sure diffusing it would've yielded an image with the same impact.

Overall: Demonstrates mastery - I'm looking forward to finding out who made this.

A fine model portrait but the background kills it for me a bit.

Positives: A dying breed - in more ways than one! What an interesting composition - the juxtaposition between the foreground and background subjects is as stark as it is effective - I really like that. I like the colours of the bus too and the overall golden lighting hue.

Critical stuff: The foreground hand - without it I think the image would have much more mystery; it would make me think more about where you were in relation to the subject what you took the shot.

Overall: A very effective image.

Positives: There are a number of features of this image that I like - the slightly tone-mapped look suits that suits the image; the story behind the girl and the shop - we wonder if she works there or at the adjacent property - we wonder what she makes of you as you take the shot. I like the overall composition too - where you have placed the various elements within your frame.

Critical stuff: Not much - the deep shadow on her face means we don't have eye-contact. I'm not sure if that would improve the image any but it would certainly be different.

Overall: A great offering.

Positives: What a quirky scene! The looks on both of their faces when put together makes for amazing story telling. The composition is really clever, with the eye drawn to the background and the negative space above, it has the feel of a comic cell await lettering - the juxtaposition of (non-speech) balloons adds to the overall mental image. The tilt to the table is masterful too and reinforces the visual effect and crafted feel. The high contrast black and white handling - fabulous choice!

Critical stuff: Nothing at all.

Overall: Quite fabulous - i'm sure this will pick up a lot of admirers.

Positives: This is the first image to pop up for me in voting - excellent!! Love the colours here - especially the polaroid blue hues. I like how it feels like a scratched transparency. I can clearly see the flower petals but I'm delighted you've retained so much mystery in this image. I like how it offer low and high contrast at the same time - I'm not sure how you've pulled that off.

Critical stuff: Nothing at all.

Overall: I really hope others enjoy this as much as I do. I wonder if the parallel Nixter challenge will open people up a little to the less conventional images sometimes offered up?
