It's a measure of your success that I can look at this and just take it for granted. "Ahh... the gyaban image."

However, let me try to pull back from casual acceptance and try to appreciate anew. With that lens in place, the astonishing achievement of pulling this off is brought back into clear focus. I know you normally trick our eyes by making floors look like walls, but here with the pouring tea, you've added a new confounding element. Your dedication to crafting these images is just astounding. Even took the trouble to see to the coordination / coloration of the pot, tie and socks!

I gave you an 8 on my first pass, but really - what was I thinking, this is just in another league in terms of dedication and execution. I have corrected my error and bumped to a 10. I hope you haven't had many people fall into the state of casual acceptance as I did. We only have to stop and think about really trying to pull this off ourselves to be treated to a great big reality check.

Bravo. This isn't the sort of image I would normally 'favourite', but I have because really do admire the craft and talent so much here.

Positives: This is a tremendously engaging photograph. Hands, faces, hands, faces - the brain almost oscillates in pulling each out as the main focus. Our propensity to see faces and your photographic emphasis on the hands competing for primacy of perception. I love the stars on the hat too and the way the faces are lost as we move up and into the image. Your monochrome treatment is just perfect.

One thing, this image with its juxtaposition of hands and faces reminded me instantly of Marcus Harvey's Myra Hindley portrait - and although the images are nothing alike, the sensation of perceiving hands and face together brought that most clearly into my mind.

Critical stuff: Absolutely nothing at all.

Overall: Gallery quality. Among the finest images I've seen on DPC. Imaginative, well executed and communicartive.

Positives: This is certainly a bold offering, full of ambiguity - basic form?, wet?, dry?, macro?, true colour?, orientation?, natural light?, tungsten?, strobe?, added vignette? No clues. The image is uncompromising and unconventional.

Critical stuff: All of the above - the flip side of the same coin. The lack of reference points makes this a quite inaccessible image, I quite like abstracts but here the lack of line, flow, balance or any form of harmony makes this quite a jarring image.

Overall: I'm hoping that my reaction to the image persuades you that you have had the sort of reaction you wanted to provoke. I don't really like the image but I'm pretty sure that having people like it is at the bottom of your list of aspirations.

Positives: Your title works so well, an intersection between person, built environment and light. His gait is particularly compelling with that long stride and trailing arm. The shadows are beautifully projected too. I really like the three short white lines, with the black negative space they bracket the image in terms of dynamic range and add purpose to the somewhat limited constrast offered in the central part of the image. I also like the glass/window reflective elements, it has the effect of bringing you, the photographer, into play and includes us the viewers into the world. As a result this feels a little voyeuristic and furtive.

Critical stuff: Not much at all... Perhaps the top might be cropped a little closer, but that is a trivial thing.

Overall: Nicely done.
