Arizona Meteor Crater by tangueraComment: I consider it nothing short of a scandal that this is your first ribbon (DQ aside); I've been looking at your Flickr portfolio recently and found such stunning work that I was going to drop you a line anyway. How wonderful that I can do so by congratulating you on this ribbon. The first of many I'm sure. |

loversby jmritzComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: I really like how this image teases the viewer - it is on the brink of clarity, on the threshold of illumination with a story that only just forms in our mind.
Critical stuff: I do like the grain but the cross-hatch artefacting is distracting.
Overall: Imaginative and interesting. |

Positives: Amazing use of negative space - so much captured in so little of the frame. I believe this could only work in monochrome and your choice of toning and curves is bang on.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: Amazing work |

Years of lonelinessby PascalComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Beautifully composed image - that diagonal shadow running corner to corner is tremendous. The light on the building is pretty special and the figure brings the whole scene to life.
Critical stuff: There seems to be some slight haloing around the figure.
Overall: Very strong work |

Positives: This is a very powerful image - the foreground blurred object resonating with your title as it does. The face communicates much and the light has exactly the right balance of harsh and soft elements. Monochrome was a good choice here too.
Critical stuff: Perhaps the POV could be a tiny bit higher.
Overall: Compelling. |

Young Dreamsby MarikaComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: I'm a fan of good model shots and this is fabulous. The DOF is just perfect, as is the overall composition. I love the light and your model is lovely. These colours should be garish and over-powering but instead it all hangs together really well.
Critical stuff: Nothing.
Overall: Wonderful stuff. |

A vision? A ghost?.... take care of yourself during the night on the tube.....by danieletagliabueComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. Positives: What an extraordinary image - a self portrait for sure but you aren't the focus here. The latent menace of your main subject is highly compelling. The reflection makes for a wonderful low contrast rendition. I love the reflected scenery too - especially the train.
Critical stuff: Nothing
Overall: Excellent image. |

Positives: Lovely colours and nice vignette. I really like the city on the horizon and the wedge shaped ocean. Obviously the figure is the focus of the frame and certainly she makes for an intriguing story - possibly involving murder.
Critical stuff: I do like the image but for me there something that is a bit misaligned.
Overall: Imaginative and well done. |
