I did say this in the forum (but you seem to still think that no one has told you where the new shape is) but what has got you here is that island of eyebrow out there on it's own. It wasn't separate before. Now it is. New shape.

Take a look at your 'similar' negative image; that filter doesn't separate that part of the eyebrow off.

Well, you don't need me to tell you that this is a successful image - most of the 131 people who voted have already told you that.

Let's put the painting with light part aside for a moment. The part of the image that most fascinates me are the interplay of shadows and river in the middle distance - make the whole thing look like a faux-backdrop. At the same time, it is clear to the brain that it is genuine and that adds to the whole effect.

I suppose to me the background is a touch overexposed but that's a difficult call without seeing what a darker image would look like. The image has nice coloration throughout but I'm particularly taken with the pastels of the flowing water.

I never dipped into this challenge so I'm glad to have had the opportunity to view this image.

This is a pretty effect. The 'flower' and its glow against the wall work really well and I like the overall coloration too. I do think this might work better with a much lower exposure - I note your aperture is set to f/3.5 and can't wondering how it would have looked at f/8 and 30 seconds.... I know'd you'd have lost the bottom of the vast then, but a brief sweep with the match lower down the image to finish off would probably have worked.

Overall, I like it very much as a concept but feel that the highlights from the top of the vase down would look better suppressed a little.

Nice though.

This is a very interesting entry in a challenge I didn't really engage with. I like how your light painting has done more than just illuminate something; it has created new meaning and transformed your subject. That, coupled with the dreamy glow-like grass and the nicely coloured sky all contribute to a very convincing image.

Look at your histogram too - I nice peak in the 6s and a 10 spike. An image that certainly resonated with more than a few.

In terms of a critique, although you probably were horizontal, the lines of the clouds tricks the eye and I think a bit of counter-clockwise rotation might have sat a little more easily with the fussy.

Overall though - very nice indeed.

Positives: So easy to have gone with something more conventional with this scene - instead you give us this dark mysterious and slightly sensual take on the scene. Masterfully restrained and fully of smudgy goodness. I really like your use of negative space too.

Critical Stuff: I wouldn't dream of it.

Overall: Looking forward to seeing who is responsible. Amazing stuff.

Positives: Wonderful subjects, composition, light and colour. This is just tremendous Johannah - I loved it when I saw it in your Flickr portfolio and I love it here. Makes me want to take a deep breath. Her dress against the green door and the French Bulldog pocking through the hatch is just marvellous. And chickens too!

Critical stuff: Perhaps the right foot distorted by the lens and its proximity looks a bit odd for some audiences (but personally I think it adds to the quirkiness of the image).

Overall: Just spectacularly accomplished. I hope this ribbons.

Positives: Fabulous composition with a title that resonates perfectly.The tones are lovely as is the great sense of texture throughout the image. The man inside communicates the sense of a ghost unable (or unwilling) to let go...

Critical stuff: Nothing really

Overall: Looks like a jagar to me. That, of course, is a very good thing!

Positives: Wonderful journalistic image. The tones are straight out of a vintage photo book. A most interesting scene and even more interesting POV - where were you??? I really like the kites (if that's what they are) in the sky and how they leave little trails.

Critical stuff: No

Overall: Most compeling.
