Hube Sunsetby APComment: i actually view this less as a sunset shot and more as a portrait. his face give a stoic feeling even when set next to this spectacular sunset as though a long hard journey is coming to an end and the sun setting has little to do with the task at hand. i also like how it is only illuminating his face leaving the last spot of sun and his face as the only 2 points of illumination in the shot. did you grid the flash? |

Reflections.jpgby APComment: this might be my favorite from your portfolio as well. im not usually a big fan of duotones but it really makes this shot into something more than just an island with a tree on it... it is made into more of a shimmering mirage, the blown out reflections in the water give both a serene and fleeting feeling as though this is only a moment not meant to last more than a few seconds |

Elemental Roadby APComment: im split between your 2 takes of this shot. in this take i LOVE the high saturation and the crisp details i feel like the dynamics of the edit stray from your typical editing ( which is neither good nor bad) and i wouldnt have thought about this shot being edited any other way until i saw the other version. i really think the other version is more your style ( whatever thats supposed to mean) and i actually prefer the diminished contrast that gives more texture to the trees and to the winding road by removing the powerful lines drawn by shadows. either way i love the shot |

Out of Ruin, Sprouts Lifeby APComment: im sure that youre right about the deer doing better ( thats just DPC for you hahaha) but i see much more beauty and creativity in this one. i love how you employ low key shots to produce stronger emotions i feel like the enveloping darkness of the old greenhouse really helps personify the struggling, lone fern. |

Sylvan Passby APComment: this is definitely one of my favorite shots of yours i love how you use vignettes in your shots either all around the photo or just on one side. it really evokes a feeling of mystery for me. the line of the path given by the perspective you use help accentuate that mysterious vibe and the rock in the foreground really helps stabilize the composition of the pick for me. |

Driftwood Firesby APComment: i love the silhouette of the logs in the background against the sunset paired with the shimmering water lit by the last bit of sunlight. i think this really ties together the whole ocean feeling for me, topped off with the sea breeze that is nusging the flames inland. Beautiful shot with great pairing of cool and warm tones :). ps: thank you for your comments on some of my pictures they were really insightful and gave me a new perspective on how other people may be viewing them. |

Featherby CitadelComment: in response to your forum post: i think that the black and white really diminishes the viewer's ability to separate the feather from the grass which leads to a combination of two clashing textures that just makes the picture seem very busy. its like wearing a leopard print shirt with spotted pants to me. i also agree with JDubsgirl that tight vertical crop is displeasing in this kid of photo it feels like it was only cropped in this manner in order to be able to fit the whole feather in the frame as if you were documenting it for scientific analysis rather than trying to construct a more abstract piece of natural art. i love the texture and the sharpness really bring it out great but i dont feel any movement due to the confining crop and i feel like the emotion/feeling brought about by the subject and the texture has been diminished by taking it out of context and sort of just showing it solely as its physical manifestation rather than having some sort of feeling behind it. i feel like a single feather in a patch of grass brings a feeling of being lost or left behind. lonely. and in this case the texture would act to enhance its difference from its surroundings putting it in an even more isolate state but the composition doesnt reflect any of that or any other sort of feeling for that matter. i hope that my very long winded and circuitous answer was helpful in some way shape or form. on the other hand it could be completely worthless seeing as its 1:30 AM haha
