That fill flash / reflector is almost a bit much, giving it a surreal quality. Bur OTOH, how else could you have brought out all those wonderful textures and colours, that really make the picture? I feel mesmerized. Thumbs up!

The texture of the wood and the nails really pop at you. The colour play between the flaking varnish and the graying wood is great. The sky is interesting. Lighting and focus are fine. And yet I'm not sure that I like the picture. The perspective belittles the strong and mighty bow, to the point of reducing it to a mere appendix. Thinking aloud here - this could have been a great perspective for the authorities of the threatened central European cities, to encourage their citizens when the Vikings approached up the river...

Waiting for one last Flood...

That sky disturbs me, it is just about too "perfect". If it really was there, congratulations on catching a lucky moment and bringing it out like this. If you put it there, congratulations for an inspired eye. The colour scheme is great and supports a suitable message. The hulk is a sorry sight indeed, as are all abandoned boats. But who thought it necessary to add insult to injury by putting the poor thing in a cage, and why?

Speed..

Comment:
Landlocked, are we...? Spur of a moment, last-minute entry?
What if you had tried to get a bit of a "panning effect" to emphasize the speed element. That way you could perhaps have increased the DOF a bit, and blurred the "wake" in the "speed stripes" instead. And gotten a "speedy" "water surface". That yellow brick at the bottom would have to go (unless of course the wheel is attached to it. Hmm). A bit of blue tack or clay instead, to get the bow to lift, perhaps? Or a bit of "spray" around the bow to hide the yellow brick?

This has got quite an oldish feel to it. The faded frame is a nice touch. The "oldtimer crop" (little future, lots of past) forces me to stop and think. All in all nicely balanced. A bit of grain might have enhanced the feel further.

I'm getting tuned in to these "very little future, a lot of past"-crops for oldtimers now, several of them in this contest. But I still find it unnerving. Which probably is a good thing, since I have to stop and really deal with the picture, rather than just tick it off as smooth eye candy. I wouldn't mind a bit more sepia in this one. Perhaps some grain as well.

Nice colours and textures. I find the fenders disturbing, and I'm not sure that the pier adds anything more than the confirmation that this is probably a vessel. I would probably have cropped from the right until the fenders were gone (and ended up with a pretty abstract picture and lots of DNMC's, no doubt...)

To quote a term frequently used around here for abstracts: " what is it". (Just had to wright it, never mind, insider joke). I'm not into analysing modern art, so I won't even try that approach. Lots of details in there that tickle the fantasy (dolphin head, cling foil stretch, headless torso, boatish silhouette, light textures). I like the overall effect as well. Great picture! Great title too, as such, but I fail to make the connection...
(Sorry, I'm not allowed to vote, so I can't boost your average.)

Comment:
As a sailor I object to your title. Motoring with the main sail up for stability ain't the sailing spirit! That may predjudice my opinion of the picture itself. The crop rescues what there is to salvage in an otherwise somewhat undramatic scene.

Based on the TN I thought I'd skip it, but I'm glad I didn't! Great graphic effect, works really well. Just a pity you didn't get more/the rest of the stern on there as well (or didn't it work out?). Anyway, your effort was well invested!
