stormy tetherby skewsmeComment: Somewhat peculiar shot. I like the composition, the bench in the water opposing the tree, and the tetherball forming a triangle. |

A tree aboveby redpandaComment: The sign works wonderfully to subvert the tree as a subject even more than it already is. Great find. |

Thingby freakin_hilariousComment: Cancerous trilobite spawned from the sewers of gloom.
That, or a tribble. Be careful in any case. |

soloby bspurgeonComment: The detail on the wings and body, coupled with that awesome catchlight, add a lot of life to this. Nice use of light and dark to create a composition. |

freeby jmritzComment: Interesting juxtaposition of free and the weight of gloom impending doom and sky. Makes me think of smoke filled and soot drenched industrializing London. Nice. I like the dark take. |

Old Californiaby Carlo21Comment: A nicely done landscape, but bears little semblance to the challenge. Even an attempt at depicting the "old urban" is tenuous at best, having no evidence of ranching/farming/mining. The road is the only evidence of human alteration, a much needed element in any urban shot for me. I would have scored this well in a FS though, I am fond of the photo itself. |

The Oak Chapelby gyabanComment: I imagine this was a tricky thing to shoot. Visually, I don't know how much I like how prominently the building on the right factors into things, but I know if you got much closer to the subject it would lose a lot of sense of what it was. |

e n c r o a c h m e n tby rooumComment: I'm sorta amazed this scored as high as it did. I don't mean that pejoratively, though it comes off that way. It just doesn't strike me as something that would score decently in a FS, is all- a neutral statement.
I very much like this. It's got a very nice degree of detail mixed in with the movement. The sculpting of the red, in particular, is really pretty awesome, making it seemingly three dimensional. Very cool. |

blackbeardby FourPointXComment: Good capture Joe! Birds are a beast even with a telephoto, let alone a P&S. Make sure to check your histogram to make sure individual channels aren't blowing. I'm not sure if you can get a RGB histogram on your P&S, but if you can, make sure to check it specifically when you shoot reds/oranges. It's been my experience that they blow FAR easier than other channels and block things up. Just something to keep in mind. In any case, I think the close crop works well here given the positioning of the bird, and I don't mind the main branch in front of the bird, but the OOF one is a bit distracting. The leaves frame the bird nicely though, without cluttering things heavily. |

Boiling Pointby colorcarnivalComment: Some Puzzle Macro outtakes, methinks?
The color is really nice in this, makes me wonder if it wasn't for your puzzle entry. To me, the color is such an integral part of it, it's hard to consider it without. The DoF is interesting on this too... doesn't quite seem to be how it should be, mentally. |
