A Mother's Loveby colorcarnivalComment: Nice shot Michelle. I'm going through this challenge looking only at images that I actually enjoy, thumbnail selecting, since the challenge matter is one which I'm not too keen of. I'm glad your shot scored as well as it did, since I think the way you captured the mother and puppy is very nice. Great composition, and the texture of the puppy's face is splendid. Great job.
Missed dead dude's comment below mine and only saw it in the forums. Congratulations! Message edited by author 2011-10-26 02:19:37. |

Left Behind by AllenPComment: I'm pleasantly surprised that you did as well as you did with this. I don't vote all that often these days, and I purposefully avoided this one because of the subject matter just not being my taste.
Your shot makes me sad that I didn't vote, simply so that I could have given this the high vote it was due. The depth of field on this is marvelously done, and be it the processing or the natural light of the scene, but it fits the idea and the image marvelously. And, of course, the moment and the fact that your captured it, is awesome. Great candid shooting.
Very, very nice. |

coin slutby tnunComment: I'm not sure which is more curious- the photo, or the cascade of comments.
I've never been tempted to label myself a prude, but it's surprising to me that so many were so offended by this. |

Ascension by Brent_SComment: I saw this in voting and was instantly impressed. I'm very happy that it ended up placing as it did, as I feared it would be another of the shots I'm keen of that fails to excite the voters.
I think it's the vivid colors that really separate this visually. The intensity of the colors with the drab concrete takes a largely dull and dead scene and invigorates it. |

Your Words are like Spoken Poetryby geinafetsComment: I saw you post in the forum about feedback-
It's a well lit portrait, and interesting, to boot. The eyes are have a lot of allure, but are perhaps a bit overdone, in my opinion. The lighting on the hair is very nice and gives a good flow and texture to things. I'd like to see her shoulders moved in a bit of a manner so she doesn't quite look armless. I know you're obviously limited in that you presumably didn't want to show nudity, but angling raising the arms a bit or something would suffice.
Overall though, I think the biggest drawback is just that it wasn't entirely clear what we were supposed to be fooled by. Regardless of how you accomplished this, there are ways to do it both in PS and in camera. On the bright side, though, your shot made me think of this so consider yourself in excellent company :) |

Life Cycleby HipychikComment: Very interesting shot.
You know, looking at the thumbnail, I thought this was a head on shot of a ballpoint pen. Having viewed the fullsize, I still can't shake this idea, and think it adds and interesting additional depth to the shot.
Anyway, very nice and congratulations. |

Decendingby sfaliceComment: One of the higher... or the highest by a good margin!
Great shot Alice, and congrats on the placement.
I love the repetition of the walkways in all manner of directions, and the warm gold throughout. |

DPC Hatby LandzEncaComment: ha! Reppin' with the alpha shirt, as well.
That Sony Alpha symbol is so much more simple and clean than having "Nikon" across my breast. Message edited by author 2011-09-27 03:08:24. |

Tongue of the Dragon - 3"2by crowisComment: I was curious how many people would enter lightning shots in the long exposure challenge, and I had thought of doing it with my own shot , but went with the idea of freezing action instead, thinking the voters wouldn't perceive a lightning shot as long exposure, even if that's how you shoot it.
It looks like you might have focused beyond infinity or just shy- unless things were really softened from noise reduction, things should be a bit sharper than what you ended up with. Times like this, using live-view to ensure things are in focus is a godsend. |

High in the Sunlit Silence by vawendyComment: I really liked this one-
The gull looks so haggard and the positioning of the wings really make it have a totally different feel from many bird photos, not only of your own but just in general. Very nice. |
