I hate it when someone jumps out at me:) I always try to hide the surprise...LOL this is a nice idea. the image could use a bit more balance in terms of the space it was shot. the opening to the back of the room is a bit distracting....may have worked better if the lights were on in the hall and over the door?

A nice B&W photo:) what I imight have tried to do would have been to have kept the flash down a bit by reflecting or difusing it. I have used a white sheet of paper when I had to use a built in flash. I would hold it about three inches in front of flash. Hope this helps:)

A nice candid capture. I am not sure about the surprise part though. more a photojournalism kind of shot. would have liked to have seen the whole monkey. good luck:)

I love this shot! The young guy looks truly surprised. I might have cropped a little tighter on both sides, the background pulls you away from the subject. The shadow under the jaw line is tough to get around with a flash, I have used a sheet of white paper just in front of the flash to soften and give the over all image a more balanced feel. I hope this helps:) Good Luck.

wonderful model and look of surprise. this image would have had a bit more impact if you could have dropped the background out all together. Stiil a fun shot

oops! looks like it might hurt:( action like this is hard to do. what would have made this more effective would have been less camera shake. having both the climber and the background moving is a bit distracting. but no question, he looks surprised .

Fun idea:) I know i have been surprised like this a few times. this image would have more impact (I think) If the flash had not been quite so harsh. still a nice take on the challenge.
