...the Ents come out to play...by ScantyNebulaComment: I have a real personal envy of this shot, I tried several times to do a similar shot and could not get the lighting right, you managed a very nice warm glow, well done. |

on the treeby GinaRothfelsComment: Hi and greetings from the CC. Well, I like the deep richness of your color tones in this shot, esp of the bottom red ornament, the gold looks slightly overprocessed, tho. I think the composition is a little crowded and shots that have one thing to focus on generally do better IMO. The lighting seems ok in most of the shot however, not sure what the fabric is of top bow but your light is producing a strange effect on it. IMO, this is a hard challenge being that we were told to use 'ugly' subjects really, but I think generally in composition try to keep it simple. Hope that helps a little, keep shooting. |

Over-doneby keoneComment: Hi greetings from the CC. Well you managed a nice sharp image in the dark which is not that easy to do. The composition is ok and the subject certainly fits the challenge IMO. My biggest critique on your shot is that the colors seem to be muted somehow causing the shot to lack a bit of pop and wow. You did manage to not get any extraneous information in the shot, i.e. cars parked on road background stuff, we just have the glowing lights of the night to focus on. You mangaed a good shot on a tough topic to get a good shot. keep shooting. |

Christmas lights on Kelview street...by DCThiessenComment: Greetings from the CC. I actually know of this house from a friend who lives in Kelowna--lol. I think this was a hard topic to get a good shot for being the requirement was to shoot something ugly really. What I really like about your shot is that you found a creative take on it, I like the motion blur in the lights, it is very well done, and the recognizable figures in the foreground still demonstrate that is is Christmas vs. amusement park. I think your shot has great color and is very well exposed. for the most part I like your composition as well tho it would be nice if your foreground subjects could be grounded vs. cut off. A very decent job on a tough topic : ) well done and keep shooting! |

Christmas On A Budgetby JukeDaddyComment: Hi greetings from the CC, i find this challenge very hard to critique to be honest, because they are asking us to shoot something of no aesthetic value IMO, which I think you have done well in terms of subject it is tacky. I find the composition a little too central to be interesting using the 1/3 2/3 rule would probably help compostionally, perhaps moving the subject over to the right a little. The lighting is also a little too reflective IMO finding something that is slightly more indirect may have helped, tho it does have that christmas tree glow to it. i agree also with the comments below, shot would have been better without the added border. It is a clear in focused shot tho, good job for a tough topic to make look good. |

Always chase your dreamsby PaulMdxComment: Greetings from the CC and happy new year. Well, you are aware already about leaving in the arm on the guy on the left, you did a very good job to get a stop action shot, and there is still motion blur nicely on the ball. You captured the 'action' of these men very well, it is an emotive shot esp thx to the man on the left. I think your compostion, lighting and sharpness are great. I think if this was an action shot vs. motivational you would of done much better, I think your text is overbearing and perhaps some folks did not get your joke, you may have done better with just the 'chase your dreams' segment. I do think this is a very decent shot for an action/sports shot. Would like to see it without the text.
Very nice job other than text IMO.
Keep shooting. |

Count Your Blessingsby librodoComment: Greetings and Happy New Year from the CC, this was one of my favorite shots in this challenge. I think you did a great job of conveying an emotive feel, your choice of words is poignant and yet not overpowering the image and concientiously placed. I think you chose a fantastic subject, as you look at this beautiful yound girl I feel compelled to create a story about who she is and how she got to be where she is. Her face reveals such great human tension. Technically the shot is well composed, well lit and sharp. Excellent work, keep shooting. ( Sorry I don't have more criticisms for you, I think the shot is very well done), perhaps an idea would be to try it in black and white or sepia. |
