I recognise this location! I can't work out whether or not the model adds to or detracts from the shot, possibly the latter. Our eyes are drawn instinctively under the arch and I think she is a bit of a distraction. Exposure is perfect.

The DOF is absolutely spot-on and I love the way the other side of the leaf ends up being in focus. You need to watch those highlights though - the white bits on the fly's body are just a bit too blown out.

Nice shot of the cat, though I think it would help if it were looking straight into the camera. A good shot that ultimately lacks the interest required to do seriously well in a free study.

A pretty shot with great DOF and composition. It does lack the 'wow' factor required to do seriously well in a free study though methinks.

Wonderful expression, but the lighting is harsh and those highlights are getting a bit out of control. Love the capture though.

Excellent composition (that cloud is brilliant) but you've gone a bit overboard on the sharpening and it looks pixellated in places.

I like this one a lot. The eye contact is great and although it's not the sharpest of images I think some subtle PP has brought out the detail very nicely. Good choice of border too.
