Walk on the beach

Even though the foreground subject is sharply focused, the bright OOF areas draw the eye due to their brightness. Also, the division between bright and dark is very central so the image feels a bit static.

What may help:

higher vantage point - this could possibly allow you to include more of the beach and less of the bridge

fill flash - to add vibrance to the seashells

The ice covered bushes make a good subject however I don't know if IR is the right treatment. (not my taste anyway)

Compositionally I think it's ok with only a slight tilt in the horizon. Exposure could probably be bumped up a bit as it appears too dark. Though, based on your title this may be what you were going for.

Good composition though the snow is totally blown out. For the challenge I think this scene would have better connection if the image were taken from just inside the forest showing the water exiting.

Red Headed Woody

Woody is nice and sharp and in general the composition works quite well. However, the bright area to the right of the bird, the OOF branch above and to a lesser degree the red twig poking in from the bottom left are distractions.

Nice capture though I feel breaking the rule of 'space in front' and cropping a bit off the left would make the image more dynamic as the bird would be more off center.
