Owning Up Downtowns Demise by sfarrell23Comment: As more and more malls are being built further outside the city, we lose our identity as people who have compassion for the small family business base and look more to the money we can save. So in a lot of cases we have places like WalMart and others to thank for the demise of our down town core business.
Now they are not solely to blame, we as the consumer need to shoulder some of it as well. If we ween't so hell bent and tied to the all mighty dollar and used our money to support the little guy we would see a shift in the trend but if continue as we are more and more small business owners will shut their doors.
As you can see this issue doesn't bother me one bit :-}
On a lighter note you have managed to stir emotion in me as a good shot and title on a contensious issue should, good on you for that. I like the angle that you used here and the B&W gives off lonley tone to the shot as it should to move the reader to continue on to the story. Great job. |

Only the memories remain by BradComment: This is tough subject under any conditions. Having nearly died in a fire myself as a young boy this hits home for me. Some people might be offended by this as a record of someones pain and suffering but eventhough this hits me hard it is still important to document happenings like this. For all conserened I hope and pray that everyone there is safe.
This is powerful and reminds us that as people we are strong and if everyone got out safely there is hope in the face of adverstiy. On a personal level if this is your own home, the home of family member or a friend, it took, I'm sure, a tremendous amount of strenght to post this and I applaud you for that strenght and can at this point only offer our prayers to you and yours.
As I often do I remember the fire in our home and the pain that came with it everything that we lost and the things that we didn't. The thing that sticks with me the most and in the most vivid detail were the teenage kids and the mindless adults laughing at our plight and the ease at witch they were hoping that they would see some dead people. I'm sure that this is not the case here seeing as the devestation is so wide spread.
Again I hope that all is well there and everyone is ok. |

At the Little 5 Points Halloween Paradeby elemessComment: This photo tell us a nice human interest story. One can draw two conclusions from your shot right away. The first is that the band is so loud you need to cover your ears or two, the band is so awful that they hurt your ears. Nice capture and good choice of angle I like the DoF and the choice to use B&W well for this shot. |

Mountain Rescueby Len ScapComment: Nice shot. The DoF is great nad the colours are wonderful. I would offer a few small things and I hope it helps. First the framing of the image, I know that this is straight out of the camera and in Jpeg and you had limited time because the chopper was moving, but the fence and the wind sock are a little distracting not because they are there but mainly because there is not enough of them to be important to the shot. If edit or time allowed you would crop them out or move back and make them more a part of the image because they could help to tell a little more of the story. The wind sock or fence might have the name of the rescue deployment centre or the hospital on it and fill in some of the details.
Second thing the title "Mountain Rescue" it might catch you for a sec but it dosen't hold you for long at all. When people go through the paper the headlines have about 0.5 of a sec to catch your attention and about the same to hold it. You need to punch it up a bit, something like "Family of four rescued after plane goes down do to fog" or "Three men plucked from fridged mountain lake after boat capsizes"
So there you have it my take on your shot and I would like to see what you would've done with an advanced or expert edit on this. |

An Illusory Hopeby jenesisComment: Now this is what I was looking for in this challenge. A good old-fashioned honest to goodness rainbow shot. Not that there is anything wrong with any of the other enteries but it is nice to see a great capture of a rainbow. I love your forground there is a lot of movement with the water and wind but it doesn't detract from the shot at all it just helps to tell the story. |

Colorsby SnakeComment: Looks good and the colours are well done although I do find the forground to be a little dark on my monitor. |
