Contemplationby waterliliesComment: Her makeup looks shiny and unnatural when compared to the casual outfit and setting. |

Kellyby TallblokeComment: Very shiny, creased background overwhelms the model. She has a nice expression but the shadows in the lower portion of her face (under the apples of her cheeks and under her chin) are very unflattering. |

Tessby sixmacsComment: The background is extremely distracting. I would suggest using shallow depth of field when you can't place your subject in front of a simple background. |

My Brother Daveby bobdaveantComment: The subject is too close to the background and appears to be lit with the flash in your camera. Having the subject sit further away and directing a separate light at the background will separate your subject from the background and eliminate the closed-in, flattened head look that this proximity creates. |

Tamaraby PhilosComment: Her lipsitick is rather crusty looking because her lips are chapped. Also, it is far to overdone for a model of this age. I know it is very hard to capture eyes this dark. I have nearly black eyes myself--I'm aware of how difficult it can be to capture highlights when the irises seem to disappear into the pupil. It can be done with careful lighting and exposure. What I see on my monitor are rather flat, black irises with tiny dots of white. Kind of unsettling. It might be due to overly soft focusing. |

Black & White on Colorby DJLubaComment: Her lipstick is rather overpowering her face. I'd rather be focusing on her beautiful green eyes than her rather unnatural cool red mouth. Someone with this warm coloring should be wearing a warmer red or other earthy, spicy color. I think the focus is a bit too soft. She's an attractive model in a nice pose and her outfit is well put-together. |

Going to the Chapelby crabappl3Comment: I like this accept for the cropping of her bodice. It looks really pouffy and ill-fitting. A slightly higher crop, or a slightly lower crop to show more or less of the dress would have made a difference. Because her face is in quite a bit of shadow, my eyes keep straying to that sparkly, white, poufiness. |

Sheridanby gajmajComment: This is quite a bit high-key. The desaturation looks gives her eyes a very odd and unnatural appearance. This is not too be mean--I'm giving you an objective opinion since this is very likely a loved one and we tend to see with the eyes of love---she is a really cute girl and this is a great expression but her ears stick out a tad with her hair tucked behind. Not so much that I would be likely to notice in everyday life but for a lasting portrait, I would suggest next time, have her wear her hair down. My eye keeps straying toward her left ear. |

Portrait Doubleby ColeyComment: I find this very creepy. Her face reminds me of one of those plastic doll heads you find in craft stores. She looks bald. Interesting process but not very flattering to the subject. |

Self-portrait With Flowersby carlacrypticComment: This looks rather like you hand held the camera above and away from your face. This would account for the rather distorted appearance of the features. This sweater rather swamps the face of the subject. It looks like your head is emerging from a large wooly, purple coccoon. I don't say this to be unkind---I'm just trying to give you an objective opinion.
I would suggest for future self-portraits, you use a tripod or other stable surface, and the timer button on your camera. |
