The technical qualities of this shot are beyond criticism - the taking and processing of this is as perfect as one could hope for. The actual shot - the subjects, the approach, the processes, I find too twee: I haven't this much of a sweet tooth, I'm afraid. I've no idea how to balance the technical against the emotional in my vote though.

Very very interesting approach - arresting, in fact, as it has stopped me from expiring with boredom after the last twenty or so images. Excellent compositionally, good spread of tonality, and yet still easy on the eye. I would wish for a more intense level of detail, to bring this neo-modernist kind of composition more comfortably into a real world - it might add some depth to the overall view of this, rather than what I'm finding quite a simple image. Simple but good, that is. I'm intrigued to see whose this is.

Very grey - and I can't really see a reason for not using that range of whites above your brightest point. From the look of the shadows on the church front, there ought to be detail in those trees available, rather than a simple silhouette. If it was mood you were after, I would suggest that a greater range of contrast to bring out the clouds, and perhaps enhance some sense of texture on the boarding might have been more effective. This seems, especially as it all darker than the background on which it's displayed, simply to be underexposed.

Seems to lack detail and resolution - which has killed a sense of texture in those bricks.

Whilst I like this as a composition, it does lack a certain quality of texture. The light through that window is attractive, and lends an element of difference essential in such an obvious challenge. Good work.

Nice to see a shot that isn't just a tight crop of a building.

You should get points at least for not providing a simple portrait of the building. It's reasonably easy to see your intent here, I believe - good deep depth of field and that succession of doorways; but I feel that the light and shade through those doorways doesn't help to distinguish each from the other - and no doubt the basic rules aren't helping you here either.

I would personally have waited until that little cloud had passed, as it could easily be taken for smoke from that chimney. Kind of harsh light - I don't see much detail in the shadow areas without forcing the brightness of my screen. Good strong simple composition.

Comment:
Is the toning perhaps a little heavy? Together with what feels like a heavily reduced dynamic range - all midtones, and few highlights or real shadow - it sems like an attempt to reproduce the feel of aged photographs; which point I get, though I wonder if the effect hasn't removed too much of the sense of detail I would want to see in a very straightforward 'portrait' like this.

A more interesting composition than many. Some odd noise along the shop-front, almost like you've lightened that area. Like the use of the tree shadow in foreground.
