IMG_1015_edited-2by MikeOComment: I would not have thought of using the selective desat for this. Cool and unique effect. |

receding marine layerby bspurgeonComment: It's interesting that you chose f2.8, a close focus point, and got this much DOF as well. You must have been shooting in twilight, or using a lot of ND filter to go 2 sec @ f2.8 and not over expose.
The long low white cloud looks like a tidal wave coming ashore. Pretty, but spooky too. |

Opuntia Cactus, Southern California.by bspurgeonComment: That impressive cloud cover does a lot for this one. I like the huge DOF too. We call those cacti "prickly pear" here, and the local Mexican Americans like to cook and eat them. |

Every Cloud has a Silver Liner (old pilot saying)by AbraComment: Very stormy. Having the aircraft in the center gives it a focal point. It's a little detail that is not visible in the thumbnail.
I feel that including a horizon line would have improved the image a little, but maybe what was there would detract from the simplicity of the minimal effect with just the airplane to anchor the shot. |

Sixby tangueraComment: Love the "mare's tails", and the lanky palms compliment them nicely. Even the background behind the palms cooperated to accentuate the trunks because of you using a low point of view. B&W is good for this too, because the interplay of shapes and light and dark are what makes the shot. |

Solar Haloby cginoComment: That's fascinating! It's good that you had the 10-20 with you when this occurred, and that you knew what settings to use to capture it so nicely.
I just noticed that I had already commented on this. It's interesting that my reaction was the same as before. |
