I like how you've filled the negative space here with the tree's lines, adding interest. A blank negative space would have provoked more thoughts beyond the photo, perhaps. Nice work.

While lines do not shout here, they do aid in leading the eye to the woman on the bench. I like the tones here; very well controlled. Nice work!

Hi Judi!

Greetings from the Critique Club!

This is a very nice photo, especially straight from the camera. My camera is weird and only lets me shoot in color or in sepia, so you're lucky to have a b/w right out of the camera.

What strikes me first about this photo is its point of view from behind, which is very unique and which instantly grabs my attention. The tones are also very nice, and considering you hadn't any opportunity to fiddle with them, it's even more remarkable. The composition is quite good, too. The horse's eye is in a strong position in the frame.

Some folks mentioned the ears being cut off, and I suppose it is a slight distraction to have them like that. With pp possibilities, you could either include them or crop closer to the head.

I like the depth of field here, too, and again find my way right to the eye, which is nice.

Congratulations on a nice photo, Judi!

The flower of life!

Hello Kita,

Greetings from the Critique Club!

This is a lovely photo. The flower is clear and pretty, and I love the way you've included dark and light areas in the photo. The depth of field is very well used, and the flower finds itself sharp while the leaves and background are blurry, giving attention to the flower very effectively.

I also like where the flower is positioned in the frame. It's not quite in the center, so it adds some mystery to the shot. In fact, if you moved it even more to the side, it might improve the photo even more.

For more improvement, I might suggest experimenting with different kinds of lighting. This lighting is clear, making the flower visible, but it's also a bit harsh. So it might be worthwhile taking this or a similar flower to various parts of your house and outside to see what kind of light you can capture that might be more moody or mysterious. You can even try putting light behind it, under it, or in other unique places. I recommend first taking it outside in full shade on a sunny day, or outside when the sky is cloudy. Good luck!

Thanks for letting me look at a lovely photo!

Hi Shailesh,

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Congratulations on a very nice photo. I see here a lovely girl in a flamboyant pose that still looks natural. it is full of life and joy and it makes me happy to just look at it!

The cropping is also effective, for it gets us close enough to see her face and eyes clearly, but is far enough away to capture the cute pose. I also like the amounts of dark and light tones and how they build the photo. The background is intriquing and adds to the photo considerably.

I suppose my biggest question is "why blue?" I'm not sure the blue tone adds any personality or mood to the shot, so I just wonder why it's there. Perhaps if she were sad?

Anyway, nice shot and thanks for the opportunity!

David
