First edit is better than the reedit. It looks more natural, and you lose some detail in the white feathers in the reedit. A beautiful shot, regardless, I can feel him flapping his wings. You got robbed on the score. The only thing I would try to tweak is to attempt (it may not be possible) to get a bit more detail into his black head.

Oh, yeah.

Bird of paradise are fun to work with because of the interesting shapes and colors. This is about as good as it gets. Beautiful line and shape, a B&W conversion that nails the full range of tones, then toning it with just the right amount of brown. Fantastic.
