Duck Soupby Wenders11Comment: Nice but I am not really seeing the dappled light in this shot. |

Standing Tallby Nikolai1024Comment: Nice dappled light shown here. The image has been oversaturated however which has results in some bad noise. |

XYZ by gauravComment: Greetings from the Critique club!
Interesting idea. When I first saw this shot I thought that the letters were engraved in stone. This is probably due to the texture of the paper that is well captured. The upper part of the shot is quite bright and is quite distracting.
The subject is simple and for many viewers it would seem that there is little to hold their interest. I personally enjoyed the simplicity of this image however so I wouldn't put to much stock in either opinion.
I like the angle that was chose as it really creates a feeling of depth.
As for the challenge? XYZ are letters yes but each of those letters appear by themselves in the dictionary WITH definitions. That in my books (and Webster's) makes them words.

Dappling In Deathby bvyComment: I won't take marks off but why did you feel it was necessary to include "dappling" in the title? What would you have called this shot had it been for a free study? That, in my opinion is the approach you should take to titling your image for challenges. If you have to use the challenge topic in the title then it usually means you are trying to shoe horn your image into the challenge. (Not in this case however)
Now that my mini-rant is over how about something constructive? Good demonstration of dappled light that certainly fits the challenge. I like the monochrome but I am also curious what this would look like in colour. Dappled light tends to make a shot feel warm and relaxed. Monochrome tends to "sanitize" an image for lack of a better term. Just a thought though and I think it could work either way.
I really like the leading lines of the shot. Its too bad that the back stones are so bright but it probably couldn't be helped.
Overall a good entry for the challenge. Well done! |

Shining Through Your Thoughtsby gg3rdComment: Your model could have taken up more of the frame and had she been placed IN the light I think this would have been a more interesting shot. The way it is right now its a picture of a barn interior with a girl in it. |

TIGRESSby ALAComment: A little hot in places but the lighting is quite contrasty. |

Moonlight through the Pinesby jlanoueComment: Definitely a different take. Most of the shots that really have good dappled light use sunlight. I like the fresh take on it. |

Dappled Dozenby smurfguyComment: not really dappled. Think dapple grey mare. That's what I am looking for. Random shadows and light. |

It NEVER Snows Here!by BeeCeeComment: Well..in lieu of rollover I decided to spread the commenting love. Since this is the photo in your challenge portfolio with the least comments I thought I would stop by here. (funny...1 commenter and um..he gave you a 4. What a jerk).
Anyways, It is a good idea for the challenge. Tough scene to shoot. The exposure is hard to handle and with so many trees its hard to compose the shot. Maybe composing so the tree on the right was more prominent may have helped.
But this was two years ago and you probably figured this out all by yourself :) |
