Grandmaby roby21112Comment: The subject is given to us by the title rather than the composition. For me there seems to be a visual struggle between the elderly woman on the left and the seller and the woman on the right. Portrait orientation would worked well to help us with this.
Cute picture otherwise. I like how it portrays the elderly in a different way. e.g. With a bicycle helmet and running shoes |

To the office - That way =>by ValdoComment: Interesting angle. Strange focus here. I'm torn between calling it artful or out of focus. We'll call it artful for now. I like the tones throughout and this works quite well as black and white (especially with the "artful" focus). I like the patterns and repetition in this shot (i.e. the posts, and the bricks). The white jacket on the subject really helps identify them as the subject. |

Please dadby p2jvrComment: I'm not sure how you processed this but the scene seems quite muted. It looks like you were going for selective desaturation but didn't apply it to the whole background. In any event I don't feel it works for this shot as the man's shirt matches the background too much. Leaving it in color would have allowed him to stand out against the background more I think. |

Slow going on a busy Hiwayby griz210Comment: Another interesting take on the challenge. I'm not sure about the black and white as there is probably some really nice colors to be seen here. As black and white it seems a little flat and could do with some contrast. |

Tentativeby Elvis_LComment: Not really sure what to make of this. It seems to be below the streets rather than on them. That aside, black and white does work here as it adds emphasis to the shadows. I may have been tempted to dodge his face a bit to allow us to see a bit more detail. |

Getting a Better Viewby trevytrevComment: Interesting take on the challenge. I like the choice of title (though I might have called it getting in my way!). Interesting choice using black and white. It really enhances your subject. The background gives good context to the subject without drawing a lot of attention. |

chillinby holdingtimeComment: Wow! Love the use shallow DOF here. The colors are terrific and really make your eye explore the shot. I like the sharpness you obtained in the main area of focus as it brings out a lot of subtle detail. The candid expressions of the people really works well. |

Bored Waitingby CraigFComment: The posed of the two men definitely lend to the title you chose. Good choice on the black and white conversion. Moving to the right would have been helpful so you could create more visual separation between the two men. A lower angle might have also been more visually appealing. |

SURFER GIRLSby rayangeComment: Interesting take on the challenge. I fear for the DNMC votes you may receive because there is no street. (I however am not so narrow minded). Nice colors and the background, though blurred, has sufficient detail to provide context for the subjects.
The fact they are looking across the frame helps as well. It draws the eye across the picture nicely. Because of this, perhaps landscape orientation might have worked well rather than portait.
Overall this is quite well done. |

when blue skies fade to greyby BlackboxComment: I like the connection between the title and the image. Good titles, such as this one, support the image and don't act as crutch. (i.e. they act as an explanation).
The angle is a little plain and I suspect you took this shot from across the street. One of the challenges for this type of subject is getting up the nerve to talk to the person you are photographing. It does take away some of the spontaneity but it does help you "see" the subject better and better empathize with them. |
