Teenage Fireflyby ImagineerComment: Greetings from the Critique Club:
This image has an almost Disney quality with the "fireflies" and the strong trunks leaning toward each other. One can almost hear them speaking. The wave effect of the top of the light streaks is very nice. When I first looked at this image I found it a bit busy and I wonder if you thought of the smallest imaginable crop at the bottom to take away a third or half of the puddle of blue but not enough to lose any of the right hand trunk. I also wonder if you might want to rethink how much of the sky you want in this...it might tighten up and have even more punch with a top crop as well as one at the bottom. This is a very interesting image and one which you could play with for a long time I think, it all comes down to what you wish to present. What you gave to the challenge was very fine, thanks. |

Avian Contoursby ScottKComment: Greetings from the Critique Club:
This met the challenge for me. I love the "Avian Contour" title and felt that the shape was indeed the important factor in the image. That being said I wonder if you thought of cropping this at the top where there is motion (water) that is unclear. This would have the effect of tightening the emphasis on the pigeon's curves. It appears a bit over-sharpened, especially around the crown of the head and down the back where there is some haloing. The backgound is a bit muddy and, again, the crop might help that. The feather detail is nice and the violet at the neck is a luscious color, especially where it fades into a hunter green that is very satisfying. An interesting entry and one with a fresh perspective. |
