This photo is interesting, but (whether deliberate or not), I find it difficult to get my bearings looking at it. The background is so plain, I can't tell if this was thrown in the air or is floating on water. I find that unsettling.

Having looked at all the images now, I have to say that this is one of my favorites in this competition! I love how the unused space is actually part of a story being told by the photo. The DOF adds interest too, makes it look like a runway for the little bird. Well done!

Just for the record, this was one of my favorite images of the week, and I'm surprised it wasn't a top-ten. While maybe not the most artsy thing out there, it definitely has PERSONALITY, which a lot of the technically flawless studio shots do not. So if you're going "darnit!" when you see your score, just remember that there are a lot of votes higher than five for this picture, including mine. :)
