I agree with the other comments, the lighting on this is great. The pose is lovely too, he's got a great smile. I think the nly major distarcting element is the BG (I'm guessing it's the livingroom couch?) the pattern in the fabric keeps pulling me away from looking at the subject.

the tone and B&W conversion are spot on, as are the framing and composition.

Lovely image! it's cute and innocent and technically great as well! I love the feeling of that little bird looking out like that gives. for a nature shot it's very imotive (atleast for me) and I like it.

One thing I might have done is worked with the BG a bit... I know it's hard when photographinh nature but the texture of trees or the blue of the sky or some other element that lets the viewer know that this is 'out there' and not a the zoo or something (regardless of if it is at the zoo)...

other than that... great shot! well done!

Great shot... you can really feel it's age and the feel of nostalgia in this photo. You're use of the selective desat also lends to this. I would however have liked to see maybe a bit more of the plane itself. had this been a challenge entry your title doesn't really tell me what it is, and many wouldn't be able to fogure out what it is from the shot as it is (unles you had put it in a puzle macro challenge?)

I think the contrast on this is spot on and the border helps to keep the eye contained in the shot.

As for how this would have done in a challenge??? well DPC is a fickle crowd... who knows... pending on the challenge I might have scored this a 7 or 8

So here it is, my critique. Starting with the good; The colours are just great you shot this at a perfect time of day. you've processed this very well, with shots like this there is the tempatation to overprocess to make the colours stand out even more you've avoinded this and that's great.

A couple things I don't care for much. 1) that border. either a simpler border or none at all would do. the problem with doing too much of a border is it detracts from the photo it self which you never want to do. 2) the branches, to me atleast, make the photo feel very busy. my eye's don't know where to look so they look everywhere. maaybe zooming in on a smaller area or (if you have the lens for it) just one bird.

I didn't vote in this challenge, but I would have given it a 7

good job.

Good shot. as the focus is the box itself. the layout and posing of the subject are good. the necklace(?) in the box doesn't distract from the box which is good as well. lighing is great and DOF is good for me... not sure what you did for editing if any so I can't comment on that.

I agree with you on the expressions.. seems forced... other than that great shot! Cloning out some of the skin blemishes would make this perfect.
