Pea Pride Paradeby NiteseadComment: Definitely a unique entry for this challenge but I'm afraid it suffers from a couple of technical shortcomings. First, I like how you used depth of focus to lead the viewer's eyes towards the back of the image. The trouble is that the multicolored background causes the viewer's eyes to continue past the last sharply focused pea. The multicolored background also reflects a bit off the reflective base that the peas are placed upon, which promotes a flat look to the image. Most of these issues could have been prevented if you had used a dark solid covered background. |

Eat This One.by Blue_Moon_CatComment: A cute idea but the image has a snapshot look to it that doesn't score well at DPC. Part of which is caused by the lack of sharp focus on the baby's eyes. It also would have helped if you had included the baby's entire arm in the image, as it doesn't really add to the picture in its present form. I would also suggest that next time you look at what objects are in the background and see which angle would be best to shoot at to eliminate as many distractions as possible. |

Crazy can openerby marvinComment: No peas in the picture. I think your score will suffer for that even if your intent was to be a bit out of the box. Overall the image is not too bad and I like her facial expression. It could use a little fill light on the right to tone down the shadow by the nose and mouth. You could have did a little burning to help brighten her teeth also. Message edited by author 2006-08-22 13:21:26. |

Burnby patrinusComment: Hello from the Critique Club:
As you can tell from the comments during the challenge, you have an exceptional image. On the technical side, I would be foolish to even attempt to tell you how to improve your image. I see you had expectations for a ribbon and the quality of your image was worthy of one. However, I think your score reflects the number of high quality actions shots entered in this challenge and the fact that your image didn't have a lot of physical action to it. I can't say enough how much I like this image and I wish you the best in future challenges.

Peas Please!!!by squidviciousComment: It is easy to see that you took some time to plan your entry; unfortunately, your image has a couple of technical shortcomings that are going to hurt your score. First, the peas are not sharply focused. I'm not sure if this is from resizing the image or from camera shake. Most members use USM after resizing as a standard practice. Second, the background color seems a little off. I̢۪m not sure if this is a color balance issue or if you intentionally choose a greenish color for the background. Either way, a white background would have helped the green color of the peas look richer. |
