Watching the cityby hajekaComment: It looks like you shot this using a cloudy, shade or even tungsten white balance setting. The color cast is very bad unfortunately. The warmth of the color cast doesn't correlate with the coldness of the winter scene. Try using a daylight or sunny white balance to get it close or shoot in RAW to adjust the white balance in processing. Then you can remove the color cast and push the temp either way. I suggest a much cooler temp for this scene. Also, if you can adjust the exposure compensation on your camera as well as the ability to shoot in something other than auto such as aperture priority mode try setting the it to +1 EV for winter scenes to expose the snow properly. A little trial and error depending on a clear or overcast day. Good luck. |

I AM the TALLEST by andrewtComment: Pretty awesome shot. The clouds look like they are starting to form a vortex that was about to suck you up into oblivion. Good thing you got the shot and left before it happened. LOL.

Pine Street Presbyterian Churchby NikonJebComment: Gonna go out on a limb here and guess that this is the work of NikonJeb. Could be wrong, but hey I like the shot and it's a good thing.

Window Washer Bluesby banmornComment: Love the perspective of the building and windows washers. That's really great. I also love the reflection of the adjacent building and the blue tones here.
What I don't like and can easily be avoided in processing is the haloing around the top of the buildings and the overall exposure is a bit flat and needs just a little more punch with a curves adjustment to really make it pop. Overall I think it's a great shot. Nice eye.

Floor lampby redpandaComment: Interesting, but you it's too centered. I also would have cleaned up what appears to either be dust, a logo or melted spots on the lamp shades.
I like the overall exposure and colors though.

can't keep a good man downby curtpetguyComment: I really like the idea and obvious effort put into this. However the composition is a too centered for me both vertically and horizontally. I think this would have been more effective as a landscape with a slight wider angle. You could have still gotten everything into the frame and composed it a little better. Just my opinion. I do like how it's shot to be from the perspective of the person in the grave though and would keep that same idea.

Tannenbaumby dtremainComment: Subject is out of focus, too centered and quite honestly not that interesting in the context of the photo. The trees are disappearing on the top left and full of "jaggies" Also, the photo has a severe color cast and is very flat. The whites are much bluer than they should be. When shooting in snow try using a +1 Ev exposure compensation to get the exposure correct. Also, sorry to say I don't feel this has a "from the ground up" feel to it.
Not trying to be too hard here. I'm trying to give you some constructive advice so please take it as that. :)

Corporate Cornerby DennisheckmanComment: I like the building, perspective and texture, but the sky is darker than I feel it should be. It's pushing black in spots on my calibrated monitors and doesn't look as natural as I would have liked. Not voting until later in the week. |
