Chris, when I click that button says "Gimme an image to Critique" each time I hope to get photos like yours. It is very pleasing to look at your images, you are doing great job with humans, portraits... although your blue is a vase, it doesn't matter.
This photo, Technically very very good. I see absolutely no place that shines to burn my eyes, yet no place dark enough to take the attention away. It is very sharp and clean photo.
Composition is also very well done. The angle and the framing of your dad is right on the spot.
I really don't give a you know what for the subject of the challenge, but I certainly see "bokeh" here. Top right corner has all the bokeh one must see to vote nicely.
2s and 3s are not justifying this photo at all. No matter who says what, I am totally against the "Low Voters" mentality, they are just bunch of crackheads "think" they know something about photography... which they all should go a flip burgers, and give their cameras to someone who would understand photography :(
Good job, keep them coming.

It's an awesome shot, very very nice. and you are very lucky person to watch them live. even the view arrives after 45 thousand years or more.

Technically little dark photo, focused nicely but having boats on the middle of the picture was not a good idea. After all, you are trying to show us the sunset. The sky colors on the background nice but almost lost in whole photo. Try to look at this photo with tighter crop, say put the boats on left bottom somewhere and show us more of that wonderful sky. Little more brightness, you could be around 5.6 to 6. You might need a bit more sharpening though if you cropped that much.
Second entry and doing well. Points are going right direction. Check the previous winner photos in DPC. Don't duplicate them but they are good samples of good work, you should learn something from them.
My advice, keep it clean, simple and sharp.
Good luck on your next

Ah... nice but not quite perfect. I sense what you see here, but things are not lined up correctly and I am not talking about the ducks ;)
Ok, why did you get low scores, it might be because the ducks are not passing in order? the dirt in the water? the view a bit far?
all above?
Ok, technically not bad. Nicely exposed sharp photo. Focus seems like where it should be. But the composition here little off, I think you could go down a little more, give yourself a little tight angle and shoot bit more zoomed in, or cropped to give dramatic lights a bit more pop.
Oh well, try more options next time, and you should take more photos of this scene... very nice place :)
Checked your page and "Waiting for the chaos to begin..." is a very nice shot. I love it.
My friend, you do have future. Keep on clicking ;)

Some of DPC voters must be drunk when they vote. 1s? man, why don't you kick your dog instead of giving 1s to people when your partner refuse to sleep with you that night? Dang.
Anyway, let's get down to business.
Technically very nice. A little bit burnt out but not much. Nice colors on top, blue and orange-ish colors very nice. Contrast is nice. Composition is also good here. I am keep checking the score, 5.2? Wow, pretty low for this shot. I would give around 7 if I did vote, but didn't.
I looked at your photos on your page. Man, you have a good future. Keep on clicking. You do have the "photographer's eye". Nice compositions and ideas.
I just don't believe you don't have any 6+ yet, but very soon... it seems like you will get one very very soon :)
Good luck on your next one :)

Hi there. I don't have any problems with the droplet shots. I think they are very nice, even I saw maybe 45 millions of them, still amaze me.
I think you have something here which is hidden. You could score a lot better, even with those people who got sick and tired of seeing these kinds of shots, you would still get something better out of it.
Technically is good. Nice lights, nice exposure, sharp and clean.
Composition is the one you lost big time, more than what it is. Your angle is not necessary, you should have kept straight photo. I think around 2 to 3 degrees leaning to left. And because of your tight DOF, top drop throws everything out in this photo. First one I see, because it's brighter, and yet the worse drop in the photo. Second little drop on the bottom should be cropped out. As a matter of fact, you should crop this to the one drop only, the middle one. I can see very clear focus on that and with the background, you could be looking like IreneM LOL
Anyways, you have a very nice portfolio, you seem like love photography, and please keep on shooting. Copy other people as much as you can, that's how you learn, even if you enter challenges, but don't forget to put your own style in them... trust me, people will notice.
Good luck :)
