You know what might really help this??? Choose the levels layer and make it dark until the background is the darkness you want, Completely forget about the cat and work on the background. Once you have everything where you need it choose the paint brush and the color black and paint the cat. It will remove the mask there and should lighten up the cat. Hope it helps.

I think your angle is off just a little bit. Look at the curb in the picture, I think you might have wanted to be running with that line but over all the image is a wonderful B&W. Did you shoot in B&W or edit it?

The subject is very neat. Might have been a little better if you would have been on the other side of the street shotting down so you have more of a vanishing point. Also your subject is a little dark so it's a little hard to see every little thing. It's a good start to a wondeful month though so lets see what else you have.

I think you have some good details here but the sky is just so plain and missing something. I think timing would be a main factor in photographing this still life.
